R50/53 My MINI is hurt
My MINI is hurt
I noticed a slight vibration and while driving and turning some, a LOUD clanking sound. I had my girlfriends dad put my 2002 MCS up on the lift and he told me that my front control arm bushing on the left was torn and the right one needed replaced too.
How much for parts and labor am I going to be looking at.

I'd consider this a nice opportunity to upgrade to Alta PSRS... if the bushing you are referring is the same, of course... on Alta's website it shows them as selling for $239.99. If you get a reputable mechanic to install them, I can't imagine it costing more than $400... probably more realistic to say $350 or so... and that's including part and labor.

Here is a how-to http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...read.php?t=483 there is a NAM link with some discussion about pricing also; keep in mind the pricing discussed are not dealership rates.
This is a common thing to wear out. Especially with any track use. Most shops will charge about 4hrs labor to do the repair and as for parts that's up to you. The OEM bushings are the cheapest, but also the weakest. Then there is the Powerflex, very nice and much stronger, and quiet. Or the Alta PSRS, Adds Caster and super solid. But has to be indexed when installed and they are the most expensive. So think of what your going to use the car for and how long your going to keep it. I have the Powerflex on my car. I sell them all too, if that helps.

I use the car for my daily driver.
Which means I dont want to keep driving it and mess it up more. I have heard the performance bushings make it a more rough ride and the OEM ones are more for comfort which is what I would be looking for. How cheap can I find the OEM ones or some similar. I was quoted 67 dollars a piece!

i took my 2003 Coop in for service and i found out my control arm bushings were pretty much dead. They cheapest you'll find is the $67 from you're dealer. I'm looking at the powerflex ones to replace the stock bushings. I plan on devoting a full day to just doing this with a couple buddies as soon as i have the parts or money, whichever come first.
good luck.
good luck.
it's probably not safe but sure, why not. It'll probably end up doing more damage to the mounting hardware and the suspension but if you NEED to then you could probably swing it. I hadnt noticed any changes in the way my Mini drove and any extra vibrations, but the Mini service advisor said they were shot, so i figured it's better to replace them sooner and why not ask for the bushings for you're applicable winter holiday?

I dont think I should drive mine. lol
I just took my 02' MCS in for PA inspection and needed both bushing replaced. The parts plus 3.5 hrs service @$105 and hour was over $400. Surprise surprise! Lucky for me a purchased a warranty when I bought the car that covers them - BTW, if you purchase a used vehicle warranty, make sure you keep the documentation. I'll still pony up for the 4yr service wich is a few hundred, but that's better than a $850 dollar inspection.
