Question for ALL Cooper (non-S) owners

This is only for Cooper (non-S) owners:

Please tell me the first problem your car had and the number of miles on it when it happened. Just the problem, not what was done to fix it.

By problem, I mean a warranty fault or defect, not something that you broke.

I'd just like to see what's happened and when.

Later, I will do a post that asks how many Coopers have had no issues and, again, how many miles the car has.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Other than having problems with my factory windeflector. I did not have any problems on my 04 MC in the 2 1/2 years I had it. it also had 52K on it when it was totalled.

On the way home from the dealer (almost 4 years ago), the side rain gutter trim
came loose at the right rear corner. Less than 40 miles.

1. Passenger side motor mount was replaced in Nov. 06 (under warranty) bc it was leaking. I think Geoffrey had somewhere between 2000 and 2500 miles at the time.
2. Motor mount bolt (from the motor mount replaced in Nov. 06) fell off and caused a loud thumping sound towards front of car. Bolt found and replaced in Apr 07 at about 8000 miles.
3. Third brake light lens had numerous stress cracks. Replaced under warranty about a month or so ago. Geoffrey had 15k miles then.

1. Third brake light fell off after a car wash, maybe 2 months into ownership (about 1,000 miles). Was not fault of car wash, may be stress cracks as leslie923 mentioned.
2. power steering pump/motor (?) began making noises 1 year and 9 months into ownership (~31,000 miles). turns out pump/motor failed.

Fuel gauge stopped working at 12,000mi. The sensor was defective and replaced twice in 500 mi.

When I picked it up the radiator overflow tank was leaking...didn't notice till a couple of weeks later. Fixed by tightening clamp.

Had mine for a little under a year and a half. Maybe 2 months after I got it, I discovered that the passenger side xenon light occasionally acts up. Its been good recently, though. Knocks on wood.

04 MC with 56,000 miles. Only problem occurred around 30,000 miles. Two motor mounts fell out causing considerable vibration. Covered under warrenty. Other than that no problems at all.

Nothing major on my 06 MC (~17,000mi). The only thing was the air bag sensor under the pass seat failed and was replaced (warrenty). Also the third brake light was loose and replaced. Both right around 14,000miles.

After 2 years and 19000 miles in our 2006 Cooper, we have yet to have a single warranty repair.

But when we took it in for routine scheduled service at 16k, they changed out the cabin air filter because there was a slight funny smell from it sometimes.

Replaced passenger seat belt and airbag sensor after 3 months.
Needs ragtop replacement due to wear spots.
Had to add mods!
Purchased new July 2006. Currently has 20K miles.

My AC compressor wasn't kicking on ('03 Cooper)...it was a loose connector that was easily fixed w/ no reoccurance.

On my '07 Cooper, a rubber seal on one piece of chrome beltline trim was delaminating...they put a new piece on. Also got a CEL and DSC sensor failure...also easily fixed w/o reoccurance.

Just this past summer I had a wheel speed sensor go bad on my 2003 Cooper (took delivery Sept 4. 2003), probably around 26k miles at the time, but like I mentioned on the other thread of yours, it may have been a granule of blacktop got up there. Also, on a VERY hot day this summer I had an issue where my drivers side window would not go down. By the time I got home it was working again and has worked fine ever since. Just thought I'd mention it as you seem to be looking for any and all issues.

Hey Ords...that's how I discovered what turned out to be a leaking thermostat housing. Small puddle (3" dia) under car directly in center (from side-to-side) under the engine. Dealer found the bad housing/o-ring seal and replaced it.

The warning lamps come on. ASC or DSC is malfunctioning. This was on our 2007 Mini with 1,200 miles on it

1st year (2002), pulled to left - both front struts replaced. Followed shortly into second year, vibration at 60 mph, both drive shafts replaced. Same year, failure of PS pump. Replaced. 4th year, cooling fan failure, fan and wiring harness replaced. 5th year, 5sp transmission replaced (out of warrenty by a few thousand miles, but I'm a 'plank-owner' at the dearship, and they warrentied it for me. (Helps that I've known the shop forman for years and maintain a very cordial relationship with the service dept.)

06 MC, has had one issue, the entire steering rack replaced, at around 30k miles. It was clicking when you turned the wheel.

While in Warrenty: (Up to 36k)

Seat back on passenger seat got stuck in the down position

Drivers door handle came "unhooked" a few times, I had to roll the window down in the rain to use the outside handle to get out.....

Out of warrenty:

Clutch replaced at 60k

Clutch slave at 81k

Radiator/hose leaking.....I still need to look at that...

I am now comming up on 82,000 on my 03 R50.....
