For those of you who have a deposit down or own a mini:
Was there any mark up in price? I've read that the base price is in the 16k range for the base and that with that the dealers are getting 10%. This meaning the dealer is getting about 1600.00 for each car.

I know that some dealers will be selling the car at msrp but I'm sure there will be some that see $$$$ and jack it up.
I was just curious if anyone has seen such tactics.

I went down to the local MINI store in Winston-Salem to kick some tires the past two days. They (Flow Motors Mini) had about 10 cars on the lot or in the showroom. I believe there were 2 base Coopers and 1 Cooper S for demo purposes. Several in the showroom for sale. While BMW discourages price gouging, the dealership has installed dealer options on several of the vehicles. For instance, 17" wheels and tires ($2,000). Fog Lamps ($ 700), and various other options such as hood stripes. They have taken a base Cooper, and added about $ 4,700 in options. I was unable to actually pin the salesman down on the bottom line price, because I did not want to get into a negotiating session. I had no desire to purchase the vehicle at those prices. I hope buyers exercise some patience, and let the market come down a little.

I agree.... Note to all buyers..... Print out what you want on the car and hand it to the salesman. They are getting 1600.00 profit on every car at msrp. Don't give them any more!!! Even on the options they are getting comission. So know your prices when you walk through the door!
Thanks for the input.

The BMW dealers in Palm Harbour,Fl. who are 150 feet alongside their mini-cooper dealership have conjured up the idea of limited allocation with the compiling of lists and one salesman (Peter) as he identified himself told me that their is a $5,000 charge above the manufact sugested retail price.
I like the mini-cooper but Henry Ford taught us a long time ago about doing volume sales.

You can take your MINI-Coopers and let them rot here in the United States.
You would be lucky to get $16,000 for thr Mini-Cooper and $19,000.00 for the S series.

Until you dealers get real "You can eat your mini-coopers at $23,000 & $25,500.

Your goofy!!!

I have checked out two dealers in the Los Angeles area. I actually have a deposit with one of them.

I went out to Assael Mini in Monrovia for a test drive. They are loading all of their Minis with $6500 - $8200 worth of add-ons and mark-ups. Every Mini has a 6 CD changer priced at $1500. They are also adding 18" custom wheels and 215/35 tires for an additional $2700. Then they also tack on a $4000 market adjustment.

You can opt out of the tires and wheels but then they raise the market adjustment to $5000.

Avoid these guys. What a racket!

That's too bad some dealerships are overcharging.

Here's my experience:

Got on waiting list at BMW of Salt Lake City Utah last fall. They are selling ALL of their minis (both regular and S models) at sticker price and not a penny more. They say this has always been the case on all their BMWs and always will be.

I'm getting the S model with every option. They told me I should expect delivery of the car by end of June of this year.

Way stoked.

I was split between red and dark blue. Ended up getting the dark blue. It was just so nice looking and red always seems to be trendy.

Drove the test model today, so so nice of a drive. Smoothest shifting I've ever done.

Sounds nice. I really like the dark blue too... IMO much better choice than the red.
Did you happen to see a silver or a dark grey? If so what did you think... These are the colors I'm considering.
Once again congrats on the car... I'm sure you'll love it.
And Welcome to the board.

Thanks Sfiveten

I test drove a metallic grey mini. I thought it was very nice looking with the white roof. The chrome accents it very well.

Only second thought I'm having is adding the nav system in order to move the speedo to the left side. I was driving the car, and before I knew it was doing 80. Looking at pics on the net now of the modified dashboard, I like it. But is it worth an extra 1600? Probably not.

Thank you for the feedback. Sounds like the color I will end up going with.
The NAV system would be nice for me (sales, with lots of traveling) but the expense is pretty high. I wonder if uncle sam would let me write off the NAV system by it's self........ hmmmm. )
I would like the speedo in front of me just haven't decided if it's worth the money yet.
Something you may want to consider also is that I'm sure there will be someone in the aftermarket that makes a speedo for the left side. I haven't heard of anything yet but I'm sure someone will do it. Just an idea.

I have had my red mini for less then 48 hours w/ 125 miles now - the spedo in the middle is not a problem for me...The car drives so tight! Scraped the bottom w/ in a few hours of ownership on a driveway. The negatives so far 1) Huge Key 2) Back or passenger door have no key hole 3) Volume **** is small on the radio. It's wild all the thumbs up, smiles, yelps etc....

My advice if you don't want to deal with Immoral dealerships is to go elsewhere.

For instance, go to the Salt Lake City BMW dealership. They charge sticker for all of the cars, no matter what!!

If you want a regular Mini, there is NO waiting list. Just go to the lot and buy one. If you want the "S" model like myself. Only people on the current waiting list can get one, sorry. (Been on the waiting list for monthsssssss.) I'll be getting my "S" with all the options come late June/early July.

But if you just want a regular one, all you have to do is walk up, test drive it, and lay down the MSRP. and BINGO, its yours.

Went down to the Orange Co. Mini dealer today with my kids in tow. They complained the whole way there then did not want to leave without a new Mini. The salesman explained no Price Gouging just lots of options some factory most dealer installed, CD Changer, Sub Woofer, XM radio system, shadow flame job you get the idea. The Base price 16000 the dealer price with options 26000!!! I am going to look around and wait for the newness to die down then order a Mini S with just what I want. Be patient the cars will be around for a long time and the selection will get better by summer.

Went this weekend for my test drive(s). Wow!!!! I love it.
The Cooper is nice but the S is a dream. The tester did have the sport pkg. with a few other options but Very clean. I love the exhaust note! The handling is perfect. And the engine is very tourqey. The one downside that I noticed was the seats...... For positioning.... errrrr That would be a pain... But who cares this is a great car!!!
The dealership is charging msrp with the 1k deposit. And oddly enough you can sign up with no deposit and pay 1600 over msrp..... ??? Oh well... I decided to wait a bit. I think....
Color choice would have to be the dark silver with black roof/mirrors. Think I'll be saving my penny's now....

Which dealer did you go to? If they will order the Mini S with the options I want and charge MSRP that would be worth $1000.00 applied to the purchase, (or lease). I am going to try another dealer in Irvine one day during the week when it is a little less hectic and see what their willing to do. I love the Racing Green with Black top and mirrors with the bonnet strips!!

Has anybody got any info on the Nav System? I like the Speedo on the column next to the tach but 1600.00 seem's like an insane amount of money

Well good hunting....

My LA area dealer said they've sold 12 in one week for $5k over sticker. They even sold a demo with 700 test drive miles on it (so much for the break in period) for $4500 over. They said when they get S's they'll be $7k over!!! Bottom line -it's a BMW. If you don't pay it, somebody else will.

Brad:
I went to Global Imports BMW/Mini in Atlanta GA.
They are telling me that if you put down 1k now you will be able to get your cooper S with the options desired by mid to late Oct. All at msrp.
Sounds good but only time will tell.
