Well for the first time my DSC kicked in. it had been raining and I was
going around a sharp turn , a bit to fast, and it began to flash off and on
power seemed to drop off until the slipping stoped. I guess it was good
that it kicked in. I had never seen it active before.

Yep, that's what it does. A VERY useful feature under the circumstances you describe.

On the other hand, when the traction control portion of the system comes on when pulling out of a parking lot into traffic, it stinks big time and is a recipie for disaster. That's why I turn it OFF for around-town driving, and leave it on for times when I am on the open road.

In the rain, I leave mine on... when it's dry, it's off. It's saved my a** already once in the rain with these crappy Goodyear EMT's.

Ya, its pretty darn cool. I turn mine off most of the time too, accept for country driving (fast). Apparently it doesn't just drop power, it corrects steering by applying preasure to individual breaks in order to try to compensate for drift. Damn, them Germans are good engineers.

No, it will drop power... trust me on this one. hahahahaha... IMHO, the Mini's DSC is much too aggressive. If you really push it on dry pavement it will not only brake wheels individually but throttle back the power, too. I purposely tried it to see where the limit was, and I can say the car is capable of more than the DSC thinks it is capable of on DRY pavement even with the crappy stock tires... several people have said that it's put them in a dangerous situation, and I can definitely see how that could happen.

It's the ASC that kills the power. Of course, anytime you power through a corner hard enough to activate DSC, ASC will step in as well and whip you back into grandma mode.

Yes RSpeed, these guys are great, its a local place in the Atlanta area, about 5 miles from one of the only two dealerships in GA. I am attaching the link, which stars DMonk. So far these tires and wheels are great, I have gotten many more head turns and questions from Non-mini people about the wheels. Peter or Joe will help you, they are a sponsor on the interior/ext. mod form.

link to wheels/tires - http://www.rspeed.net/mini/item.asp?...p;prod=405-508

Hope this helps.

I just started this post because I have been starting to drive very aggressive and it kicked off first in the rain around a cornor that had some bumps, I knew about the road conditions, in dry weather I click it off before I hit that turn and make it thru while gaining speed, DSC does not allow this, but in the rain i decided to leave it on and see what happens. guess I am a little It helped me understand how my car reacts in this situation which was a good lesson with no other cars around.

I am waiting for the batman grappleing hook that will shoot from the bonnet to help me up those tall buildings.
