R50/53 Semi vs MINI - today is not a good day...
Oh k, now I'm angry... I'm driving down the block, making a left turn to get to a mcdonalds and sure enough, a semi making a wide right turn side swiped me and left a nice dent on the side of my car...
AND THEN, he started to drive away, so i pulled over jumped out of the car and just looked at him, and he kept driving off.... adventually he stopped, i think because he saw me waiting for him, he jumps out of the cab, and come over and starts yelling at me... and then he started yelling at the officer on duty! he was pleading his case of how it was my fault that he hit my parked car.... (i was at a complete stop waiting to turn)...
so to any degree, after the officer told him that he didn't want to hear anymore, he told the truck driver to go back to his truck and he'll talk to him there, he comes over to my car (my poor baby) and tells me that i've done nothing wrong and hands me the drivers insurance information and told me to have a nice day... HAVE A NICE DAY!?!?!?!? oh k, the officer on duty was really nice and all... but i'm not going to have a nice day...
oh k, oh k, i'm done venting... i think i need to listen to some good angry music.... Filter's "short bus" is going in the cd player...

He told me to call my insurance company and have them call both the driver's work and insurance company. and then to have a beer.... I was shaking after the accident, because for one, i think the other vehicle had a bit of a weight advantage, and the other driver was kinda threatening... The officer asked me why i was shaking so much... i'm like "um... well... i'm driving in a MINI and i just got t boned by a semi..." I've never seen an officer laugh so hard on duty... The officer just told me that he hit me, and it's unexcusable, and it doesn't really matter what events happened before, or after... what really mattered was the second it happened because the accident happened at such a slow speed (5 mph), it was extremely preventible if the truck would have just hit the breaks, but no, instead he kept rolling into me.... it was like one of those thing where you could watch and couldn't do anything... the truck was crossing 3 lanes of traffic to make a wide right... the officer couldn't understand "the slight ignorance it would take to think you need to cross three lanes of traffic to make that turn..." to any degree.... i called, and they're sorting things out now... i don't have to talk to the guy's boss or insurance at all so it's nice to know it's in the hands of someone more compitent
>>Wow, that stinks! You want that truck driver to be taken care of?
naw, it's all cool... dont' mess with truck drivers... they have their own fraternity that i'd have to worry about... come on, we all saw that episode of the simpsons...

I got hit by an 18wheel tanker truck in my mom's Corolla a few years back...it really is scary when you get hit by something that big.
I know this sounds mean, but I hope that guy loses his job...they need to have more competent people to operate such heavy machinery. That's good that's it is all getting sorted out....keep us updated!

well, i know that sounds mean, but this sounds worse - they need to have more competent people to operate such heave machinery AND THAT CAN SPEAK ENGLISH. yeah, Juan, the driver, got out and yelled at me in broken english... i should have taken spanish in high school instead of german....
i don't wish any harm to the guy, i don't know his back ground, he migh have a wife and kid at home, and if he gets fired, that just means in the long run i have to pay for his wife and kid at home out of my taxes... at least he's not being a cancer to society, he's a real working guy... BUT YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT to want some sort of harm done to the guy...
but in your case, that corolla was probably scarrier than my situation... i rear ended a corolla once going 10 miles an hour (i had my mustang) and i took off his back end.... :???:

Yeah the Corolla is a POS, but it wasn't so bad....I was behind the truck and he decided to back up into me. I know he could have seen me if he checked...I could see his mirror.
Either way...I saw his reverse lights come on and had time to put the car in reverse and honk at him, but couldn't get out of the way...he smashed into me and pushed me up the street. There was only pretty minimal damage to the front bumper, but if I hadn't had the car in reverse he probably would have rolled right over me.
You have a point.

Sorry to hear about that Banky
And for what it's worth, I too agree with your point about not wishing any actual harm to the truck driver. On the other hand, if I were in your situation I'd wish financial harm upon his employer for putting someone poorly trained behind the wheel of a huge, dangerous, machine. Hopefully they won't fire this guy, but will think twice about their drivers' skills before sending them out or hiring them to drive semis in the first place.
Up here in Boston we've had a number of high profile truck accidents that have been the result of unlicensed or untrained semi drivers.

Forgive my lack of reading skills if this has already been mentioned, but did the officer give you a copy of the police report he wrote up? Or did he give you a report # so you can reference it for insurance purposes?

Doesn't seem to me like a matter of doing "harm" to the guy. His job is driving a huge truck. If he can't do that job well enough to avoid damaging other people or their property, he should be doing something else. There's probably another deserving individual out there, out of work, who could do the job competently.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunant encounter, glad that there were no injuries (to the people involved). Your MINI can be repaired, and his insurance will pay for it all. That's why we all have insurance, (especially a**holes). Follow Officer Friendly's advise. Go home and pour yourself a cold one. You've earned it today.

I got the number for the police report, and i have to purchase it for $35.... !!!
i have a lot of police in my family, so i'm going to see what they can do...
>>All Semis make wide right turns. Just curious how you got on the inside??
i was in the left turn lane and he was in the far right lane.
as for insurance, my insurance guy called me and told me to drop my car off, it'll be fixed by next week wednesday or so he says, and to top it all off, i get a geo metro as a rental car.... eh, i didn't have much going on this weekend anyways.... :???:

sorry banky that sucks! i was in an accident the other day.. i was sitting at a light using my hands free talking to my friend, just sitting there, when BANG this guy rams me in the *** and i go into the woman in front of me. i flipped out hung up the phone probably looked like a mad woman was shouting "you're f*cking kidding me!," luckily there were only small scratches on the bumper... and only my license plate frame was cracked in the front. the guy was like "ooh man i'm sorry i fell asleep at the wheel" i was like "if you're falling asleep you need to get off the road!"
the whole ride home i was shaking and couldn't really compose myself...

My wife and I traded in a '96 Geo Metro for the MINI. Not really a bad car per se, it outhandles our 2002 Neon S. Metros are nearly as small as the MINI too... Try to get one with a stick shift...way better than the automatics.

... That's just the pits, Banky ... hope it all works out without too much hastle for you ...
once upon a time, I was in my classic Mini Countryman, in the right lane and a semi was in the center of three one-way lanes downtown. We were all going to go straight through an intersection, when the trucker, who had obviosly been on the road for a long haul, and seemed to be lost, thought he wanted to turn right ... he didn't see me below his door because he had a cooler and a jacket and stuff piled next to the little window that they have in the passenger door to see what's below them. So he starts his turn and before i know it, there is a huge bumper inches behind my head pushing on the side of my car ... now forget the stuff in the movies where they show semis rolling over everything - and remember that the Mini has always been a strong tub with wheels - because he pushed me (sideways) up onto the sidewalk before realizing there was something wrong. By the time we both got out of our vehicles, i was majorly pissed and wanted to sue his *** off ... but there wasn't a scratch or dent on my car! He appologized profusely, i gave him dirrections to where he really wanted to go, and we were on our ways ...

My first car was a Geo Metro, so it's kinda like old hat, i've always liked small cars anyways... yeah, i had that metro for 3 or 4 years, and it took a beating and liked it. of course, that didn't change the fact that it was stilla Metro...
8Ball, now that sucks, but at least it came out clean... mine's gonna need a little dent removal and repainting... I haven't even dropped my car off to be fixed yet, and i already miss it...

Sucks about that narceleptic driver though.
