VIN # Information

Here may be a simple question for you MINI gurus... I am purchasing a MINI Cooper S over the internet and need to find out what options the car came with using the VIN #. Is there anywhere on the net or any other method through MINI that I can find out what they are?? Unforutunately I am purchasing this car from a non-MINI dealer, so they can tell me all the visible options, but none of those like Sport Pkg (which I assume includes Dynamic Stability Cntrl), Rain Sensors, etc., etc.....

I'll post some pix of the car...

Call 1-866-ASK-MINI and give them the VIN. I know that in the past, they've been able to provide potential buyers with the information you're looking for, although they may have discontinued the service.

A MINI dealer should be able to help you out if ASK-MINI can't - is there a dealer nearby?

My MINI SA ran my VIN through the Parts Department to give me a build sheet printout of the date built, date delivered, and all option codes.

Doo,

Thanks for the info and idea. I've actually emailed the VIN # over there and are awaiting a reply... Sounds like a very interesting car... BTW, do you remember what they were asking for it?? It will help pricing the one I'm looking at...

Thanks,

I read this post this afternoon and immediately sent an email to them with the VIN of my Mini with much anticipation.

A short while ago they emailed me back telling me to go to a Mini dealer. No build list, no list of options, just a polite referal to my closest dealer.

Disappointing.

Bummer about the lack of help from askMINIusa.com. Just from looking at the pics, it appears to have both sport and premium packages at least, along with rear fog light (fronts are included in sport I believe) and HK stereo (from the silver speaker covers), can't really tell about anything else. Nice looking MINI!

I'm awaiting an email response from MIN-USA, let's see if they can email me a list as well...

My wife's first Cabrio was hunter green, and I'm a big British car fan (well, this one is only in design, but that's definitely all we need from English builders of high volume production cars!!), currenly owning a Lotus Esprit, we we found this one with the symbolic British Racing Green and went for it. What I especially admire is the interior two-tone with the tan color. I've seen the Chrome pkg, but definitely not a fan of that (especially since it's plastic), I like that shiny Silver Aluminum much better. What I am no a fan of for fun cars is auto transimission, but we will be using this Minny as a daily driver and probably be putting on a few highway miles, therefore the auto trany is definitely a necessity for us for work use. That's why I said as long as we gotta have auto, might as well go all the way with the "Thumb" shifters

bump for newbie showing off his ability to use the search feature.

I just called MiniUSA also - they are the factory in Ohio. The rep. told me they stopped giving out the information on particular builds because of liability, so you have to go to the dealer. At least, now I am in their database as the owner of this car. It so happens mine was sold in Canada, and the rep. gave me BMW Canada's phone number and the sweet thing there gave me all the added options on my build number. The rep. from MiniUSA also gave me the dealer's number, but I didn't have to call them. The one thing I forgot to ask was build date. Can anyone tell me the code or give me my date based on the number - TD59513?

TIA

Go to www.realoem.com and type in that vin # and it will give you some information.

I typed it in and I got Cooper S, built in October of 2002. (same as mine.)

Well, the pieces are chromed plastic, but like paint over metal versus paint over Fiberglas, you only see the coating, not the substrate, so it's visually no different than if the pieces were metal. The chrome process MINI uses is pretty nice - I wouldn't be put off by the fact that the pieces themselves are plastic.

I needed to find out if mi R53 from '05 had LSD. I Called mini @ 1866-ask mini and gave them the VIN num. They were helpfull in telling me after some clarifications that it had no LSD. (She initially said LSD only came with JCW cars because of their extra power , I told her otherwise (NAM savvy) and she in turn said: "let me look in this other search engine program we have...") They also put me down as the owner of the car.
Call and see what they know, but the racing green MINI looks pretty good, I would get it if the price is fair!
