My baby girl Pooky Jr. is finally coming home tonight, I can almost cry.

I am so damn happy right now I can't think straight. Does anyone understand my feelings right now?

Thank God she'll be home in a matter or a couple hours. I purchased her from MINI of the Hamptons about two and a half weeks ago and made arrangements for her to be shipped here to San Jose, CA.

Just got a call from the driver a moment ago and asked for directions to my home. Wow!!!Whooooo!!!!Yipeee!!!!!

Miniclo, Nomonstersinme, Minihune, Chefrichie...everybody Pooky Jr. is coming tonight!

Actually I did sweep the garage this past Tuesday and I didn't sleep much last night either! It's getting dark already so I'll have to give her a good washing and waxing tomorrow morning.

Thanks everyone for your support! This is my first brand spanking new car so it means so much to me. It may sound real cheesy but this is a real emotional event for me.

I intend to wave, honk, and smile at every MINI in San Jose or wherever I may be.

She's really here, and very filthy too. She's traveled across America and built up dirt from every state she passed through.

It's a GIRL!!!
Great looking MCS and ready to rock and roll. you will love it. Good luck with all your mods- I know you have big plans. Funny, doesn't look too filthy.

Does anyone know, are we supposed to wait 90 days to let the paint cure or harden before first wax? When I bought my Honda Odyssey I seem to remember the sales person said that and when I have body work done to repair my car they told me that as well.

Any idea when to do the first coat of Wax?

Congratulations on the arrival of Pooky Jr. I just ordred a Liquid Yellow MCS from Classic Mini in Ohio, tpo be shipped to Santa Clara, CA------2,500 miles, but not $2,500 for a dealer premium for the S.F. Bay Area Dealers. How much did you pay for shipping?

I haven't been this happy in a long time. I was even tearing up a little when the
driver shook my hand and gave me the key. My co-workers keep making fun of me
they say I'm going through labor.

Pooky13-
Great to hear from you. On waxing- I did a search and found from Canadiandriver.com via Ask Jeeves-
http://web.ask.com/redir?bpg=http%3a...fat_000605.htm
Jim Kerr closes the article with:
After washing it, you may want to wax your shiny clean car. Use only a non-abrasive wax and do only a small area at a time. Abrasive type waxes or cleaners are designed to remove the oxidization from the paint surface and are actually removing paint when they do this. Never wax over freshly painted surfaces! The paint can take up to six months to cure completely. Wax would prevent the paint from curing properly. Many new car paint surfaces do not need waxing to keep their shine. Frequent washings are all that is necessary.

And in another thread
http://web.ask.com/redir?bpg=http%3a...fmsg00701.html
Here's an excerpt-

> As I'm about to take delivery on my new Audi, I thought someone out
> there might know when it's OK to wax or treat the exterior paint the
> first time. I've heard that the paint needs to cure for a period of
> time before doing anything. Is this true? Also, what have people
> found to be the best products out there? I've heard good things about
> Zymol. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Personally, I would give at least one month for curing paint on the new
cars. During that period, the paint should be kept clean (and wash
gently!) and no wax should be applied. The car should not be exposed to
the harsh elements -- especially harsh sunlight (or snow and road-salt
if you're living in places that do get those white fluff).

Although waxes shouldn't be applied in this period, it doesn't mean you
can't apply anything. For example, Meguires' #3 (Machine Glaze) or #3
(Showcar Glaze) can be used. These do not contain wax so it does not
"seal" -- yet it may (or may not) give slightly more shine.

----
Therefore Pooky13 you might want to talk to your local dealer and ask the same question.
I was not warned about letting the paint cure but my build date was 10/02 and I bought the car on
2/10/03 so that is more than 4 months later. I waxed mine in the first week. Seems safe to look at the
build date and act accordingly- maybe wash frequently (I usually wash mine twice a day- or at least that is
how often I check) and then wait about 90 days then wax.

As for the HK speakers. There might be a problem. As long as the installers know that the front door tweeters are two way and that the rear speakers are dual voice coil (has two sets of speaker wires instead of one pair) then they can try to use them with your planned upgrades. The Sony or Alpine head unit will be much better than the stock HU. You will need an adapter for the antenna from BMW and you might want to add a RCA line in cable which lets you plug in audio from an exterior source via a stereo minijack. I did this and I can play music from MD, CD, ipod, and portable DVD that I can hear on my speakers. This takes the place of the AUX adapter on the stock radio. You can feed the cable anywhere you want. I had my 5 foot cable coiled up and I leave it on my euro parcel shelf until I need it. I can let my back passengers hook up an MP3 player to it via a line out or headphone out jack-the cable will reach.

Yes the speakers are good in HK and worth a try to reuse. If you amp is ample which it is (Zapco) you should do OK. The JL Stealthbox will add lots of deep bass and help the speakers work less hard. One option on using the amp is run 2 channels from the Zapco to each of the front doors and bridge 2 channels to run the subwoofer. Use the Sony or Alpine HU to power the rear speakers. That way you don't really need more than one amp- the Zapco assuming you picked the 4 channel amp.

Minihune,

Thanks for the paint/wax suggestion, I'll take a look at her build date and then go from there. As you said contact the dealership to confirm this.

As for the stereo system, the Zapcos (one 4-channel to power the speakers, a 2-channel to power the stealthbox sub), the installer may run the head unit to power the tweeters or the mid. I'll let you know the final outcome.

Minihune,

I just talked to my dealer sales person and detailer at MINI of the Hamptons. They have already done a paint prep on Pooky Jr. so they recommend waxing the car after 6 to 12 months from purchase date. Wow, that's a long time. They did okay the use of a mild wax detailer spray and regular car washes by hand or brushless process is okay. Just no heavy waxes or compounds just yet.

Jerry Halloran seemed like a good guy. I used him to get my dealer to commit to a July build date. They had told me all along that I was out of luck until August. When I told them Jerry could get me a mid July car and I was going to back out of buying it from them, I was informed that a July date had just become available this morning !! That may have been true, but I realy don't think they were going to call me and make that offer to me, if not for Jerry.

If your concidering having one shipped, I would give Jerry at Mini of the Hamptons first crack at it.
