Are the MINI S engines noisy?

isnt it the mini S supercharged engine noisy ?
if so what is it sounds like?(when idling)
This couple days ,when i started my engine after awhile of warmed up....
i heard so valve sounds like .....sound.......under the hood.....
at first i didnt bother it ....
but then after i drove for awhile ...i still heard those sounds...
is it a problem...or it is just the supercharger sound?
because the pulley is runny ,plus also the engine sound?
i also installed the engine damper ...
this is how i installed it

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=71325

same as the second picture as shown!!!!

IS IT A GOOD SPOT TO BE INSTALLED

or should i get a bracket for it....
because there is just very little room over there....
i cant even put my tools to installed it
it is also attached to the body(the metal)

it looks like so many little problem to my mini ...should i bring back to dealer for service.......,or check out my self ,or it is just fine....all of you guys got the samething...

Yes, the MCS engine is rather a noisy one...or well, at least mine! It would be beneficial if you could possibly get a clip of a sound or try to describe it in more detail, so others and myself could get a better understanding of the sound. I get the sound from the engine, supercharger, TB/Intake, and exhaust in mine...so mine's a noisy little bugger.

I can barely hear mine when idling. When I put my foot in it, I get all kinds of wonderful blower whine and exhaust growl.

mines not noisy, but it's not especially smooth either while cold.

At idle the fan runs and it sounds like there's a blender under the bonnet somewhere. It does this a lot.

Adding the engine damper will increase NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). To dampen the movement of the engine, it takes the energy of the engine and transfers it to the structure of the car. That could be causing some of the extra sounds you are hearing.

that's true. but that particular damper does not add much noise, if at all.

im running one in my car and it's helped settle the motor over rough
roads quite a bit, but not stiff enough to transfer vibrations.

Oil????

First thing I do when I note a change in the engine sound on the 02 is check the oil level. It is never down to the 'low' mark, but not full either....

I top it up and the extra noise goes away.....

the engine sounds should be more quiet than the super charger ,right?
so i think most likely the sound is coming from the supercharger chain (because it is running while idling) instead of the engine valves......

From the driving ive done in an 05 and an 03, I actually liked the 03 sound better. The 03 has more character and makes a fantastic whine and growl whenever you get on it. The 05 had a more refined sound, ie it was quieter and more subdued. I would much prefer the sound of the 03 over the 05, despite those hot lookin headlights !
