im building something for my sub box, and i want it bolted down very good so its secure, and im going to start building a base today for the box to sit on using 2x4s to brace it, and i need to know, is it going to be hard to get under there (jacked up of course) and bolt thru the floor around where the back bottom part of the seats are?
If the box is going in the trunk area you could remove the muffler and bolt through the floor there. The muffler can simply go back in, it hangs I think so there shouldn't be a clearance issue.
At the very least, you could build a metal rig that bolts here and then goes over the entire seat area. Just how big of subs are you putting in? I dislike lots of bass. My friend's '90 Accord has 2 12" subs, I can feel my eyes vibrating in that car.
ill have to find a better way to brace! might have to weld something, then bolt to that?
can you make a platform and strap it to the hooks on the chassis?
i only use small subs (not a basshead) and typically only mount it to
the trunk floor (the panel, not the chassis itself). the rear seat is
always upright and seatbelts fastened, so im not worried about the
sub smashing into my head in a severe rear-end collision.
before you lose your whole rear seat, you should check out jl audios stealth box for the cooper. i have mine on order =D yes, im paying like 400 but its a custom box that sounds great and includes the sub. im totally excited =)
I will second the JL Audio Stealthbox, (pics in my gallery). If I crank up the amp it will shake everything, I'm running at approximately 50% power from a 325 watt amp, and it sounds great.
...but it may not be able to shake the car next to you, if thats what you want more power to ya, and don't forget to install a cap for that amp.
i dont know, i just think they're a waste of money. id rather get a battery and bigger alt instead. alot of people who are really into car audio hate caps...i just dont see the need for them. they dont really help as much as people think they do...
Ok, have you noticed if the big alt/battery is preferred for all sizes of system or more when you get into the larger setups? I understand what a cap does and am wondering if they are useful up to a point or if they've been replaced by the big alt/battery setup.
I'm asking because I'm not heavy into the big systems so it's a little out of my realm of current information.
