My idea of a MINI trailer

This is actually a repost of a thread I started in the wrong forum (2nd gen.) and since this trailer is built off of the 1st gen Mini I thought this to be a proper forum for it.

Ok, here goes my second post, and it might be a doozy !!

I guess to be truthful; I am looking for a little continued inspiration, or additional motivation (depending on how you look at it) to finish a tiny project amidst many projects I have burdened myself with… But curiosity has been eating away at me for some time, wondering what remarks I would receive when people saw what I had created. Recently I made it to a stage on my tiny trailer project that I am comfortable in sharing with the MC family. I would love to hear your remarks!

Here’s how my story goes… (There’s always a story, right??)

Shortly after I got a MC in Dec 04’, My two children, Wife and I were off to Disney World for an xmas vacation. As everyone knows very well I’m sure, Packing enough clothes for a family of four into the MC can be an interesting feat. And what were we supposed to do about the souvenirs we wanted to bring back with us? LoL…. Thankfully Disney has a great shipping department that ships packages directly from the in park stores. (very cool!) But still, a weeks worth of clothes was not going to be possible with my family.

This was when my Tiny Trailer project was born. There is more to the story, Take a look and let me know what you think! www.tinytrailers.net

Wow, very impressive. It looks like a lot of work, but will be very unique when finished. I'll keep checking back for updates.

I've been wanting to see it painted to match the MC too!! Ever since I started construction. I have been walking by it for over a year in the garage. Now I'm considering an 07' in elect blue, glad it isn't painted yet... lol

Awesome work! I wish I had that talent. I've always wanted a trailer to match my car. You should hook up with this guy!

Nice work and great idea. How do you get the mini rims to work on the trailer axle?

Now thats where I'm not a novice...
Since it is nearly impossible to find a 100mx4 hub for a trailer (unless you order from europe) I had to figure out how to get the 100mx4 to fit the 4"x4 us hubs. I simply designed and machined a hub converter out of billet aluminum. works perfectly. Also remanufactured a slightly wider axel in order to run the same grove as the Mini.

I was wondering when someone would notice the rims on the trailer!!

Yeah, I saw this for the first time about a month or so ago. He got it almost perfect and I was surprised to see it seeing as how mine was so close to it.
$ for $ he's blown me away on cost I bet! I'm sure it was not cheap to get a salvage Mini (least I hope it was salvage!!!) and then do the reconstruct...
shesh.
I can't imagine the weight and drag either.
Now I do agree, It looks extreamly good. awesome infact!

If it is a fiberglass trailer, custom made then my hats off to him for sure.

Oh I'm pretty sure that one is all metal. Sounds like he paid a couple bux for it also. I'm with you. If I can get my hands dirty and do it myself I sure will!

Does anyone else find it kind of ironic that he's pulling it with a cabrio?

Hmm IMO the tinytrailer looks a lot better than the silver one. It is nice just not proportioned as well as the red trailer.

Is this something you plan on making for others as well or is this just a "one off"? I'd love to have something like that but I don't have the skills/talent/space to do something like that on.....any idea of what you would charge someone? OR how much would it cost to get you to make one for me??

Thanks!

Well this is a question I have asked myself time and time again... I have entertained the thought of using this trailer as a prototype for a mold to be constructed, but have not made any progress in locating a suitable fiberglass company to produce the shell.

Also as it was pointed out to me, I really need to look into upgrading the suspension of the trailer frame. However until I have had a chance to pull the tinytrailer with the MC to judge for myself the handling with the existing leaf spring set up on curvy, bumpy roads, I will have to see what set up I want to use. Pulling the trailer with my other vehicle posed no problems what so ever and I couldn’t have been happier with the ride of the trailer.

So for now, I am just concentrating on this trailer. I will say that so far I have about 800 bucks into this project.

Awesome project - I've dreamed of doing something like this but just don't have the space or time. You're my idol...
