Will it be a dealer installed option, or will all future Minis be equiped?

I called my dealer and they got the announcement today. I ordered the kit for around $39. A bit pricey but I've been waiting months to play my collection of a hundred or so minidiscs so what the heck. Now I can listen to some MINIdiscs

Just ordered mine. Here's the story.

This took several phone calls because they just got the word themselves.

It's 39 dollars. It's suggested 1/2 half hour to install. They should honor this. This means about 50 bucks installation fee to most in the USA. So total is about 100 dollars with tax installed. Not bad, not great. But it's a great add-on. I asked if I could do it myself and the answer was yes but there are warrenty issues on the stereo then.

The cable goes from the stereo to the inside of the glove box. They couldn't tell me how long the cable was though. I like the idea of the glove box because it's hidden and out of the way, but the cable should be long enough to make it to the driver (or at least to the center of the car). The down fall, is the wear and tear on the glove box

I wanted to install it myself too but they said it would void the stereo warranty. I think I may get it, open it, look at the intructions, judge my insall skills  If you do it yourself you could probably put the cable anywhere too.

Who ever gets this fisrt should post a link to the instuctions.

There's no chance that it's going to allow you to control your iPod via the stereo head unit, if that's what your looking for. It's simply an audio input adapter.

No he means that he doesnt want to have to keep the iPod in the glovebox. Basically you can keep the iPod where ever you want. It all depends on the cable you get to hook it into the jack. The dealer doesnt supply you with that part, you just get a standard headphone to headphone cable from Radio Shack.

Not that I don't mind paying for things but the 2003 were AUX ready right? They just hadn't developed the part. I would be very upset if the 2004's had this standard and because we got the before model year we have to pay $100. What is it exactly an RCA jack that plugs in to the HU? We had the satelite radio installed at the dealer, $700 later we have Sirius. I don't know I love my iPod but is it really worth it, I have been using the FM transmitter.

I think only the 2003's came AUX ready I do not believe that the HU in the 2002's has the "jack"

This is currently for 2003 only. If you open your glove box you see to the left that they already cut out a hole for this cable. They were thinking ahead.

Hi, you all will probably hate me for this but I can't resist so here goes.

MINIUSA,

It's nice that you came out with some neat stuff for our listening pleasure but why aren't we hearing that you have the "stumble" problem fixed! I think that's just a little more important for those of us who have that problem. Ok, back to you at the listening studio.

Sorry for my little pitch.
Peter

I know everyone is happy to have one of these but why are we paying for it. If I recall this was suposed to come with the car. So why is there a charge?
