Mine is still going strong, even when it sits for a few days with temps. that get below freezing.

03 Canadian spec Cooper. 171.000 kms(106,000 miles)

Poco grew up doing 100+ miles a day for his first 3 years, now he only does 100 miles a week, maybe.

It may be time to buy a new battery and have it on standby

6+ years at 62,600 miles on the original battery. It is a daily driver and several times a year the MINI sits for a week and up to a month when I travel.

(But then seeing the posts here, I guess it could just die without warning one day! )

My (totalled) '02 MCS was built in August 2002. I replaced the battery toward the end of 2007. Had about 82,000 miles at that point.

I'm on my original battery...'04 MCS, build date 11/03 and approx 46k miles. It spent the first part of its life in the San Francisco bay area, and now it resides in Alaska. The battery isn't nearly as strong as it used to be, but it still cranks the engine over just fine in single digit temps.

9/02 build date, still on the original battery. However, my battery tester says it has a bad cell. Still starts the car, but I am shopping for a replacement.

Im nowhere done with reading through this thread, but this has been my case. A few weeks ago, my clock began to go out, and the windows and sunroof would partially open on their own after I shut the car off. Id come back to it later and find a window or sunroof slightly open. Or when Id shut the door, a window wouldnt rise up into sealed position. Had the codes checked, and the body control module is fine. The car is almost exactly 5 years old with about 57k miles. Getting a new Exide tomorrow.

Build date 9/03 and still have the original battery in our 2004 MC as of 9/10. Only 30K miles, but does get driven at least once a week. Lived in DC, now central KS. Battery shows no signs of weakening, but I don't want to be stranded, so it's time to start shopping for a replacement.

my 03 mcs is running on original battery @ 70k

The battery indicator is still green, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I like the fact that the battery is inside, sheltered from the elements.

Hey, question for those that know about the OEM Battery. What the hell is that little vacuum hose coming off the side of it?

It's a vent tube for potentially explosive gas. If you replace your battery, make sure you get one that has provision for the tube or buy something like an Optima that I don't think is vented.

A note about the vent tube. Some aftermarket batteries have two vents. If yours is like this, make sure to cap off the end that is not connected to the vent hose.

103K miles.......and 7 yrs.

Replaced with an Optima. Bit taller than OEM and needed some adjusting to get it to fit snugly. Advanced auto has an online special right now. Purchase off the web site with 34 dollars off, free shipping or pick up at the store.

'04 R53

Just replaced my OEM battery in my April '04-build R53. Date code on the battery was 11th week of 2004.

Replaced with a Deka, installed for $70.

Car has 95k miles. Started getting the speedometer needle jiggle a week or so ago, but battery had not failed -- yet. Wanted to get a new battery before cold weather arrives here in the middle of the continent.

That's 6 1/2 years on the original battery!

2004 MC (OEM) battery just bit the dust. Local store had an Interstate w/75mo warranty for $95, right poles and size but NO vent holes. This is in the engine bay like my other vehicles and they have no vents.

Sounds like I should keep shopping for one with a vent?

How long did your OE battery last?

No need to keep shopping, your fine without the vent hose.

On a 'S' the battery is in the boot and that's why it needs a vent hose.

Hope this helps...

Is that a 30's era 3 wheel Morgan in your sig?
