I took delivery of my 2005 in July and have had no problem as of yet with it. She just turned 52,000 miles but if I had to replace it, I think I would go with the Optima line. I've heard they are a pretty good system. Almost a shame that it has to look so good and yet hide down in the battery well.

2003 Cooper with a build date of 2/03 that I took delivery of in the same month still has the orginal battery with 81,500 miles. I will be changing it before the winter comes. 5 years is pushing it for any battery.

Although Vegas is notorious for frying batteries in the summer, I have yet to have a problem with my '05 battery.

5 years, but keep an eye out. The OEM batteries tend to fail suddenly with little or no warning. Sometimes just some goofy symptoms with door locks, warning lites and such that come and go. Forwarned is forarmed

Not a battery question: But when do we change the timing chain or whatever it's called. I have an 02 MCS with 54,000 miles. and, oh yeah, I think I'm going to change my battery before winter, although there's nothing wrong, I live in a rural area.

Nope, timing chains (MINI has one) last way longer than timing belts.

Serpentine/accessory belt is part of Inspection II. So 60K miles I believe.

My '05 R53 S still has the original factory battery @ 47,400 miles. The car is over 3 and a half years old.

The battery in the R53 S is mounted under the trunk floor mat. I think this is one of the reasons why it lasts longer than the battery in the R50 Cooper which is mounted up front in the engine bay (Higher heat exposure).

Because of the heat/humidity in Florida, factory batteries tend to last no more than 3 years. My '02 R50 Cooper had 2 batteries in 6 years of ownership. My '05 R53 S still has the original factory battery and it will be 4 years old next March.

Time will tell on the Clubman S, which is mounted upfront.

Good idea to replace it before you get stuck somewhere. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Replaced my Battery after it died at MTTS 2008 here in Miami. It was stamped Jan 2002. I think I got more than expected out of it.

All of my needles in my center speedo vibrate when I first start the car. Sign of a dying battery?
Original 2004 battery just over 60k on the clock.
