well my 04/2005 R53 original battery produced 15/05 died on Monday!!! that’s 8 years and 5 months!!!...replaced it with a Bosch S6 65D...Brazilian made (I'm in Chile)
the only thing is that driving around today I suddenly got the EML and traction control lights on, went to limp mode and the engine started working unevenly...so to the mechanic it went!!!
I replaced the harmonic balancer, belt and put in a 17% SC pulley a year ago…so I don’t think is something on that side…
Asked to check and clean sensor, change fuel filter and check for the belt tensioner…..any other ideas?...

Three years, but this is typical for any car battery in Fl. the heats kills.

Just checked and the date code on my post is 39 06, so it is original battery! About 7 years so far.

Just replaced the original battery in my '04 S that I picked up about a month and a half ago. The date code on the battery terminal was from '03!

Been lurking on here for a bit but saw thread and had to add since the battery in my new (to me) MINI was over 10 years old! I replaced it with an Optima Red top. Cheaper than an oem battery and had a better warranty. Not sure on the model of the battery and it's not an exact fit. Had to make a small spacer between the top of the battery and the hold down bracket to make sure it didn't move around.

Feb 2005 production car. Battery lasted 5 years exactly. Replaced with oem. - not having a battery vent worried me, as this lives in the trunk of the s models

I just replaced the original battery in my 2004 MCS. I have just over 150,000 miles on the car. The stamp on the negative terminal was 01/04 which was the same week as when the car was built. So the battery lasted ten years and three weeks. I think the relatively few hot summer days in Michigan helped keep the battery alive longer.

The battery failed to start the car when the temp was 0F, but after putting it on the charger for a few hours it fired right up. I didn't want to take a chance so I replaced it so it wouldn't leave me stranded in the bitter cold weather we are having this week.

Here are some pictures of the battery I just replaced, including a crop of the date stamp on the terminal:

Last night after work it just barely started. After it was running I noticed that all the clock digits were _ _ _ _ so I reset the clock.

It was -10F this morning. After work I needed a jump start.

Got a Maxx Everstart H6 at Walmart for $114. It's about an inch longer than the OEM battery, has 780 CCA but there is plenty of room in battery compartment and it has the vent connection. There is a lot of confusion on the interweb about how big the H6 battery is. It is 11" long, 6 7/8" wide and 7 1/2" tall. It is also cheaper than the H5 and has more CCA. The OEM battery is rated at 540 CCA.

I'm going to hook my battery charger to the terminals under the hood so the car does not know that the battery is being disconnected. That way I don't have to retrain the windows and other stuff.

9 years

I have a 2004 MCS and I just replace the battery a few months ago, so put me down for 9 years (build date March, 2004).

One interesting note. I was at a store, came out and the car would not even turn over. The battery was absolutely dead with no warning (like slow starter turning over...). Jumping the car from an SUV also did not turn over the starter. Eventually, I push started the car and off I went. Got home, went to AutoZone and picked up a replacement, installed it and all is well again....

Cannot complain when you get 9 years from the OEM....

Mine is still the original- in service since October, 2002. I had it tested and the cranking is about 55% of original. Still putting out proper voltage. I'm considering a Diehard AGM from Sears- $165.

This is great information that you're sharing. More CCA/cheaper/vented/Johnson Controls made - this is a home-run.

I replaced the OE battery last week on my 04 MCS. I'm not 100% certain it was the original, as I bought the car used. If so, that puts it at 10 years and 70,000 miles.

I got a Diehard to replace my OEM when it died after 5 years, it was shorter than the OEM and I ended up putting a 1/2" thick piece of foam board under it to make it tall enough for the cables to reach, then it only lasted 4 years and I had to replace it last month....went with an interstate this time and took out the filler because it was the OEM size.
My MiNI is an '06 R50.

The Diehard I'm looking at is a Group 47 which should be an exact replacement in my '03 S. It's the same size as the Autozone, NAPA, and Advance batteries that are also recommended as exact fit replacements. Guess I'll measure my actual battery to see if that's correct.

9 years on the OEM battery on my 2004S. Not bad in Korea with the cold winters for the past years. I replaced it with an Atlas with cold cranking amp battery.
