R50/53 How long did your OE battery last?
The stamp on the negative post in the lower left reads 16 / 06 as you are looking at it. If there is a stamp on the positive post I will have to look for that when I get home tonight. So that would mean this battery was manufactured in April/May of 2006? If so, maybe this is the 2nd battery for the Mini. That would make sense, as 8+ years on an original battery seems a bit long!

Yes, negative post. Sorry.
16 06 would indicate 16th week of 2006.
A week or so ago, I replaced the battery in my 05 MCS/JCW. I picked up the car in April, but it was built 02/05. 96 K miles and going strong, but I'd rather replace it in my shop than on the side of the road somewhere.
I replaced the original battery in 2009 and just replaced that battery 2 months ago. I have a 2006 S. I finally figured out what my battery issue is/was. The Ipod connector that was installed when the car was new at the dealership.
The OEM battery in my 2006 MCSa lasted about 6 1/2 years. (about 53,000 miles... I have a short commute).
Had to replace it last week because it was cranking really slow and the low voltage was messing up the computer (was getting "EP" in the display just below the odometer).
Bought the battery at Advance Auto... came out to around $138 with the online discount and core return. It is a direct replacement to the OEM, looks exactly the same and fits exactly the same except the OEM case is white, this one is black.

My 2011 Clubman lasted for 1.5 year with 12000 miles. I saw the voltage drop very fast from 11v to die. Finally I had it replacec with a much larger one at dealer under warranty.
Don't know the reason but the weather of the previous day is just 34F.

Sept 2005 JCW with 22k miles, still on original battery, so over 7 years old now.
I have the car in a garage and it is on a trickle charger, that also conditions it with several different charging patterns. It also checks how the battery is holding its charge and let's you know of any issues. Seems to be fine.

The one on my 2003 R53 lasted over 9 years and 90k+ miles. Not unusual for original battery on 1st Gen models to last 9 - 10 years or longer!

They did something right with those batteries!

I'm on my way to the Mini service today & was wondering if my battery needed to be replaced as it is 5 years & 4 months old, 20,000 miles. Gosh, I hope it starts this morning. I've never had any battery almost gone signs except for the battery in the fob that I replaced last year. Crossing my fingers. njp

C ya,

My mini battery lasted about 2 years and replaced under warranty. The new one is still going and has lasted me 5 1/2 more years so far on my 2005 mcs.
