For any of you who have a clean stretch of traffic free road, bridge, or race track where you can get yours up to 130+ here's a word of warning:
Do NOT have an antenna ball on. When I went to the Italian Job screening they put one advertising the movie on all the MINIs that showed up. I left it on until the other day when I had hit 135 on a bridge. Amazingly it did not fly off, but what it did do was fly down and hit my spoiler what looked to be 20 or more times. It took me a good 15 minutes to buff off all the paint left by the stupid ball. Luckily no permanent damage (except to the dumb ball, which was dented and scarred up). I guess worse things could happen at 135.

well i've seen other antennas with antenna ***** mostly vw's bent. i guess from the antenna ball whipping the antenna back and forth all the time. so you could just get a stubby antenna and put an antenna ball.

Just shave the ball to a more aerodynamic shape like a wing turned upside down so that it will give you some ground effects at 130 mph. Or paint the ball white so that when it hits it will match your spoiler. Did you hear it hitting or were you having too much fun or were you too busy watching for police helicopters

Maybe the ball was trying to say "Bad MINI, Bad MINI!"

i've had my antenna ball on since the car was brand new (Thanksgiving)
it's 131+ tested
it's not as heavy as the the Italian Job ball, it won't hit the spoiler (been trying)
Jack doesn't look like this anymore, 10,000 miles and a new face (old one fell off)
i'll post jack's new face when pic's are deveolped

No, I took the ball off after I saw the marks it left, so yes, my MINI is ball-less (except for ball bearings, etc.).

The original entry and subsequent comments have added up to the funniest topic
ever on this site for me. When I got my little Italian Job ball I never even considered putting it on and now I'm thrilled that I didn't. Having one hit your spoiler 20 times or more must have been a nightmare! I can't wait to see the new face of the ball(head?) that was in the pics.....the old one already has me in stitches. I'm serious..........sittin' here and I can't stop laughing.

Still got my ball... just waiting for someone to swipe it though.

To paraphrase Pete Schwetty in his apperance on Delicious Dish, "Everyone loves my (MINI) *****."

Fortunately, I have a 2nd set of wheels, and therefore a 2nd set of caps... just gonna have to tighten them down with pliers from now on...

I have to ask.........how stable does the mini feel at 130mph?

also, what revs are running at that speed in 6th gear?
