R50/53 Will "The Italian Job" raise the price of the mini?
IMO, no. Besides, I don't think that the Italian Job has proven to be all that successful a movie outside of the world of MINI enthusiasts...so its impact on anything tangible (except the speed with which the film reaches video
) is doubtful. Again, just my opinion.

It will raise awareness, which may raise demand and price. My fear is the weakening dollar against the euro will raise the price.Any high demand European product must have US price increases to keep pace with the falling value of the US dollar.

I don't think it will raise the price of the car, but it will raise the profile of the car beyond Mini existing Mini enthusiasts. The film brought in almost $20 million in its opening weekend. There just aren't that many of us out there to cover a $20 million opening weekend.
It's not in the league of the blockbusters. Matrix 2 (although it outdrew the Matrix which had a 3 week headstart), Bruce Almighty, X2, and Finding Nemo. The list of films with bigger opening weekends are Bringing down House, Anger Management , How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, Daredevil and Kangaroo Jack (Shanghai Knights was a push about $150k) along with the recent May Summer mega-films. It's probably going to end the year in the top 20 for grossing films.
IMDB - My second favorite site on the net.
On the rain soaked east coast, we dropped by a local theater to catch it again and the second showing had just sold out as we got there (and not a single Mini in the parking lot). Worse than that there weren't any seats at the bar! I think the film will do $50 million before it hits video which isn't bad. There's a positive buzz around it and it should do well on cable and video.
IMO, the film was a lot better than I was expecting.

The movie has made everyone in my office stop and discuss my 1:18 scale MINI I have sitting on my desk! Before the movie, no one cared or noticed it.

Saw the movie Friday night, and turned some heads in a serious way when I drove through the parking lot after after it was over. One car of college aged folks even stopped and let me cut in from a side aisle, pointing and gesturing the whole time. Gave a thumbs up, and enjoyed the moment, all the while being very careful not to miss a shift when we got to where speed was called for. Grinding 'em would have really blown it for me and all the other MINI owners out there!!

It's sad that it's not doing better, because for a self declared anti-hollywood movie type like myself, it was a really well done moive. I guess it's just too well done for the average market.
The cast was great as a group, the writing was good (only one flat spot in the movie) with a great mix of serious and spoof, the editing was top knotch, and it was really nice to have songs that were made for the movie, as opposed to the other way around... (and for me, I really pay attention to how the music adds to the movie... call it the Yoko Kanno syndrome... )
