I saw an S with a steering wheel that was more ergonomic. It bulbed inward at the 3 & 9:00 positions. The finished material looked more perforated. It looked very sharp.

Only horn buttons in the front. I didn't look if there were extra buttons were on the back. Is this the MFSW? Does anyone have a picture of this?

No, it was a MINI wheel. Everything looked like the standard wheel except the leather (I'm assuming) was more perforated and the bulbed out areas to rest your thumbs.

Thanks for trying, Red.

I believe you are talkin about the new optional wheel offered by MINI. Go to miniusa.com and you can see it.

You saw the new MFSW. Just picked up our S on friday, was built in May 2003 and has the new wheel (horn/cruise buttons on the front and radio buttons on the back) with a little more ergonomics and perforated leather all around. Our S also came with the new pedals, shiny metal with rubber inlays.

Yup, I agree with thejamesgang. When I picked up my S in Feb. the dealer commented that my car arrived with the "new" wheel. It was one of the first ones he had seen. It was a mid year change.

I thought everyone knew about this already!
The "Sport" steering wheel, available in both plain and MFSW configurations, features perforated leather on the outer half of the rim, and handgrip "bulges" at about 10 and 2 'o clock.
Yes is was a mid-year change. It is standard on the Cooper S, and optional on the Cooper. I believe the change occured starting in Febuary build dates.
If you need clarification, do a "config your own" on MINIusa.com

Cheers,
Ryan

Not directly, but there's one MCO member who I've heard inquired about getting his standard steering wheel retrofitted with the MFW, and he was quoted a price of around $1000 parts and labor. So, I'd be willing to bet that technically it can be done, but the cost (at least at a MINI dealer with OEM parts) would be prohibitive.

ouch, a 3.5 hour job! Looks like you have to tear apart the whole IP to get it wired up. Check out Gabe's How-To in pdf format: MFSW retrofit

Cheers,
