R50/53 How LOW Can You Go?

It was reading "3" right before I pulled into the station for some petrol, but I was unwilling to circle the gas station until it displayed 3 again. . .

Who can go lower? I dare ya!
red03miniS, My D-90 gets such horrible mileage that you can almost see the fuel gauge moving. In response to a range of little more than 200miles, I had a guy make me a specially fitted auxullary gas tank to add another 10 gallons.
Note to passengers in my D-90: You are sitting on top of 10 gallons of high octane. Please familiarize yourself with the locations of all emergency exits and fire extinguishers. If you smell gasoline fumes, please extinguish all smoking materials and await further instructions from your pilot.. . .

He likes to look down at me thru the sunroof of my MINI

Why don't you run it down so it reads about 5 miles range left then park it on a slope. Up or downhill and check the reading to see if the slope allows a lower reading. it might work. If you have an extra hand tank of gas why don't you just drive it till it sputters out and see what it reads?
At first for this thread I thought it was going to be about lowering the car suspension or maybe how low the outside temperature could get.
Personally I have NEVER run out gas. It is against my religion. "Petroism"

I had never ran out of gas but I guess I just wasn't paying attention & sure enough it happened. Had to coast into the gas station-luckily I was on a hill

>>my lexus sc300 is like that
That was an awesome episode. Just freaking the sales guy out and making him squirm. Then he becomes a believer in seeing how far they can go. That was great. Classic Kramer in action.
Cheers,

Doesn't mean that I have never run on fumes. Just means I have not officially had a run out of gas on the side of the road kind of experience. Of course you can have a first time thing like you get a puncture in the gas tank or leak and that does it.
Also I have had my share of flat tires both driving and when parked. probably at least 5 or 6 easily. I think my tires have built in screw magnets built into them or something.

Ha. In my Series III (D-90's granddad so to speak) both the driver and passenger are sitting over separate tanks. It's always funny when I bring the gas hose *inside* the truck to fill up the driver's side tank since you have to fill it after removing the driver's seat.
LR, especially old Series ones, aren't for the faint of heart.

I used to use a 1958 LR pickup while living in Central America. Lord but was that one uncomfortable beast. 4cyl., diesel, with plywood and cushion seats. After about 15 minutes in it your lower body would go numb. It would go anywhere though and the aluminum bodywork was perfect for the climate.
