R50/53 How long does it take for the taillight assembly?
Hey,
I was thinking of trying to do the extra taillight modification. I was wondering if it is easy to do, and how long it takes to do it. If you have already done it, do you like it? Thanks for your help.

Ok, I'll SUPER simplfy it for you:
1-Open your boot
2-Remove the side panels (cubby holes)
3-Reach in and grab for the area DIRECTLY behind the top light (rear fog)
4-It's a rectangular plastic harness with a clip on the underside dead center, squeeze the plastic harness doo dad in the middle and pull back, voila it's out
5-Now pull it out from the cubby hole, it will reach
6-Take a piece of wire and jam it down into #1 and the other side of the wire into #4, they are numbered if you look at it.
7-Reclip the harness back in place
8-Test brake lights, if not working, check that the wire you shoved into holes #1 and #4 is touching the metal inside.
It's really that easy. MAYBE a 5 minute job. Maybe.

hey supermini!
some people have used a paper clip, some used a piece of wire.
you just need something to make the circuit between jumpers #1 & #4.
Davbret did a really good job spelling everything out for you!
this really isn't that hard, if you still have problems,
print out that pdf from gabe's site and take it out to your car.
i did this mod at work on my lunch break if that tells you anything!

It takes about as much time to do as it took Davbret to explain it. It's that simple. You will need to supply the wire for step 6. Or you could use a paper clip but make sure that there is no bare metal sticking out of the holes of the plug.
Imagine the red line in the pic below is a peice of wire. Do exactly how the pic looks. Insert the wire from the rear of the plug where the existing wire enters making sure your wire contacts with the metal inside the plug. Then loop it to the other slot.
