Is the abililty to turn on/off passenger side airbags a common feature in cars(when smaller children sit in the front seat it is "safer" w/o the airbag ?

I asked my local MINI dealer if this is an option for the car and or if it will be available in the future. He just gave me a strange look, told me there is a back seat and because there is a back seat this option would never be available.

Just wondering if this would ever be available on a MINI ?

Are there ever after market modifications, but that doesn't sound too wise ?

 

You can turn off passenger side in my Miata, I believe most new 2 seaters have this option. Cars with rear seats is where little ones belong.
