Random thoughts and ramblings....
Good morning,
I'm about to have my windshield replaced due to excessive pitting, which impares my night vision. Has anyone had this done and encountered any problems? I know that the quality of the job is determined by the quality of the tech performing the work, but since our cars are a little (?) quirky to begin with, I'm wondering if there's anything out-of-the ordinary to be concerned about.
On another note, I've been reading about Ian Cull's auto-up switch no longer being available (he who hesitates is, indeed, lost!). I managed to find them on the inter-web at someplace called Mini-Madness. I'm not sure if they're of the same quality as Mr Cull's, though.
And on yet another note, I had the pleasure of meeting Ian at the dealership in Peabody (Ma), as he was just returning from Mini Takes The States. Prior to the run, he had taken delivery of the new JCW. As I was drooling over his car, I noticed an unusual feature on the windshield. I asked him about it, and he told me about the Light'nSight fresnel lens. When I asked from whence this miraculous little device came, he opened his hatch (boot), fished around in his kit, and gave me one!
In the spirit of "Pay It Forward", I ordered 2 of them, and gave them to people I thought deserving. One to a fellow Mini driver, and one to an old gear-head who had admired the one I had.
It's a spectacular morning here south o' Boston, so I'm going to go out and beat the snot out of my tires.
I'm just sayin'.....

When I had the windshield replaced on my first MINI The buggered up the "A" pillar cover on one side. It is normally held on by clips and some double stick. To make a long story short. Some of the clips broke, so they tried to just put it back on with doublestick tape. I saw it as soon as I went to pick up the car. They tried to say it was normal. I pointed out that the other side was not squishy, and did not stick up as far.
On the way home the blasted thing came right off the car. They tried to blame me because I had pulled at it. I stuck to my guns, got them to admit that they had improperly installed the piece, and informed my insurance company of the problems I had had with the installation. The installers had to order a new pillar cover, and put it on properly.
