Back End Noise! Help!

Hey guys,
How come my MCS has a lot of noise coming from the third door especially when I'm on uneven road. Has anyone experience the same thing or I'm having some problem. Is it possible that there is something loose "inside" the third door?

Cheers
Andy

Any Help? Has anyone ever tried to disassembly the inside panel of the third door(back door) of MCS?

Let me be a little more specific with the noise. When I get on uneven road, the noise sounds like the whole back end(frame wise) is rubbing and rattling? Is that normal?

Cheers
Andy

Before you take the door apart, my '04 MCS had a problem with a body attachment underneath the rear bumper. I have had it to the dealer twice and it was fixed, but it is now loose again. The noise is a "thump" that is sometimes almost like a deep rattle. It only happens over rough spots.

Don't take your boot lid apart until you look underneath. The details have not been explained to me, so, unfortunately, I can't help you with a how-to; but you should check that first.

Not really alot to taking off the panel on the boot door, six screws and a few trim snaps later and it 's off. There is not really room behind the panel for much to rattle, it's really tight behind the panel, plus you would hear the rattle everytime you shut the boot.

Before taking anything apart, be sure to check and adjust the rubber bumpers where the hatch meets the body. Also, some folks have noticed that the D-Ring latch can fit a bit sloppy.

D-Rings on later MINIs are coated. You can try taping the D-Ring to build it up a bit and this may eliminate the sound.

Good luck with it...

If the car is an 2004 or older, the most common problem is the striker for the rear hatch is not coated with rubber. If the rear hatch striker is silver / chrome, wrap a piece of electrical tape on the shortest section of the striker. Close the hatch and test drive. if it goes away, replace that striker with the updated black striker.

Mine rattles too

I have this problem as well, I am guessing it isn't the rear hatch at all, but the lame lid that drops down and separates the driving compartment from the boot...you know that likd right behind the seats.

I just figure that thing is rattling around and the pegs that hold it in place are not a tight fit.

I will test this out in about 20 minutes and let you know whats up.

Problem FOUND! I took the inside panel off then found a metal connector which connect to a "plastic" housing got loose.

Does anyone know what that is? With it disconnected, everything works just fine. The wiper is working... all the lights(signal, brakes.. ) seems to work just fine.. the water dispenser on the wiper is operating as well..

Any clue?

metal Stricker

Yes, I applied some electric tape on the metal striker and all the noise is gone now.

Can anyone tell me where to find the updated rubber coated striker?

Cheers
Andy
