R50/53 Moving to San Antonio
Moving to San Antonio
I am moving to San Antonio in a few months and was wondering if The MINI Center there ever got their new service building up and running and if the service has gotten much better with that?
Thanks guys! Hopefully I wont have to drive to Houston for Service but hey...just a few more miles to motor!

The woodlands is prob your closest.
Yeah I just have never lived there. I lived in Corpus and South Texas, Dallas areas central Texas and have property outside of Houston and in far West Texas...so San Antonio will be a new city to live in but not new as far as knowing all there is to do....
Where is the new MINI Center located? Is it next to the BMW dealership across 410 from the airport? If so, terrible location!
I went to the BMW dealership just to order up a boot mat and a tow hook cover back in JUN/JUL 2006 and wasn't well impressed. It took the guy behind the parts counter nearly 20 minutes to square me away.
At the end of the day, I got what I wanted, so I supposed it wasn't all bad. It did seem a big waste of time, though.

From what I see, the Mini center will be at the BMW center. They have a service department now, but not a free standing building. As for the parts counter, I think it depends on who waits on you. I had one guy take forever and another go pretty quickly. Even better, I went to the Mini sales room for a couple of license plate screws and the sales man took them of the showroom model.
Yes, The San Antonio MINI Center is in a terrible location, especially with all the construction. Despite the hassle of getting there, I've had good experiences with their service and parts department.
Saw a friend that Lives just up the street from the MINI dealer in SA. He talked like they were up and running, but I am not positive.
Anyway, welcome home to Texas.
The SA MINI Center is co-located with the BMW dealer by the airport, but has a separate building/showroom and service coordinator. The MINI techs only do MINI work and are pretty dedicated. They've opened up in the evenings for tech sessions for members of the Lone Star Mini Club. Parts counter/department is shared with BMW. There is talk of building a facility on I-35 north of San Antonio towards Austin that could better service the folks in Austin since there isn't a dealer there.
THAT would be great! I made the trip yesterday and it took me three tries going around the area to figure out where to get in to the place. Once you know the entrances and roads it's not bad, but rough if you don't.
They have a "1500 market value adjustment" on all cars. Is that the sign that means "go to another dealer"? MSRP I understand. But since I'm North of Austin and have to travel to any of the TX dealers, it's not a really good first thing to notice (after finally getting in there) (and they were proud of their 150 car inventory-inventory is nice, but supply and demand would seem to be a little off kilter for wanting to tack on a huge markup above MSRP).

Hey Mike--by "seperate" do you mean the showroom attached to the main building by the service car port? Also, did the dealer move the service advisor into the showroom or is she still in the main building? I wasn't aware MINI had seperate techs--that is really good news (not that the BMW techs are bad; the BMW Center got a new manager within the last year or so and service is now outstanding).
As for the Lone Star Mini Club, how active is the website and group?

Doug - yes, the MINI showroom is attached by the service carport and they did move the service advisor into the MINI showroom. The MINI techs are pretty good - they seem to care about what they are doing.
The Lone Star Mini Club has a small core of folks that are pretty active. I think they do runs every couple of months and get together at a restaurant occasionally. They've arranged evening sessions with the MINI techs for "how to" sessions as well. The website isn't too active. Maybe a half dozen posts a day. For a city as big as San Antonio I don't know why there isn't more activity!

I ask the same thing about my lacrosse club! Maybe with one more enthusiast moving to town things will change. I really enjoyed the ride along autox video on the website. I can say I get waves from other owners in SA.
I always make sure and wave but unfortunately I get very few waves in return in the Portland area so I am looking forward to it in SAT! Only a few more months. Unfortunately I travel alot so my MINI stays in the garage most of the time but when I am home! Look out! lol
