Pulley install.....????
Hello all,
Just curious. My birthday is in August....woohoo 36! And I was thinking of picking up a 15% pulley and new belt as a "gift" to myself! I would really like to save money and do this install myself.
It looks like with the pulley and belt i should be around $130-$140 or so range.
The pulley puller is around $80 i think or i found a used Alta puller for $60 in the NAM market.....guy is actually in Erie, PA!
All in all i am looking at around $200 - $220 range. Or i can go to a shop and pay $299 (OXSPEED in Maryland) or more locally.
My thought was if people are interested maybe we can put something together locally and have sort of a pulley install get to together somewhere....maybe a local shop or something.
The benefit is we could maybe split the costs of the pulley puller (unless someone has one we can borrow?). And we save money on having someone else do it. If there is enough interest maybe get a discount on parts.
It would be great if all i had to spend was about $130 bucks or so for the 15% pulley and belt!
I just wanted to get a feeler to see if anybody is interested. My plan was to try something in August.
Also, having someone who has done the install before there would be a great help

The Club owns a puller. I still happen to have it in my possession.
We have done a number of "pully parties" in the past. Shouldn't be too difficult to get interest in a Garage Day. I don't know what my availability will be, but the puller is available for use for free to Club members. There is a minimal deposit/rental fee for non-members (I don't recall what that amount is).

Also make sure you're signed up on http://www.meetup.com/motoringtheburgh/ because we post even more events there. (Meetup is especially good for things like impromptu pulley parties.)
We usually have a garage day in spring (March/April) and again in the fall (Nov/Dec) but I'm sure you could gather up some interest in a summer one. You can email events@pittstopmini.org to suggest it. Steve M, club VP, usually hosts our garage days because he has access to a 3 bay garage with lifts and everything we could need.

Mini2go - what is the pulley fee? Just curious. I will most likely just join the club
oxspeed - thank you. I go down to MD a few times a year to visit family and friends. They are all in the Glen Burnie, Millersville (Old Mill) area so I would inly be 20 minutes from your shop on Mountain Road. If I do decide to come down in August would you still have you $299 price for the Alta pulley, new belt and install? Or is that price just a special?
