Magical MINI Tour!!! Im goin....who else?
Just a reminder
The Magical Mystery Mini Tour hosted by Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts is on September 5-7, 2008 on one of the most scenic pieces of real estate in all of California, Treasure Island (in the heart of San Francisco Bay). This is sure to be one of the premier Mini-MINI events in 2008 with participants from the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. There are live outside musical performances on both Friday and Saturday night until 10pm with the San Francisco skyline as a backdrop. The vendor village will be open daily until 10pm and the partial vendor’s list includes Mini Mania, Moss Motors, Edge Motorworks, AMCO Japan, Bay Bridge Motors, Hooked on Driving, MC2 and others…
We have 24 hour secured parking on Treasure Island with buses going into San Francisco twice an hour. We have a catered BBQ on Saturday night and food vendors located in the Vendors Village on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - including authentic British faire.
Want to watch a Giants vs. Pirates game at the beautiful AT&T Park? We have a group organized for the Friday night game. Want to go on a winery tour? We have tours arranged at Mario Andretti’s winery in the Napa Valley and the Gloria Ferrer Winery in the Sonoma Valley. We have runs planned for the Marin Headlands, Mount Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, Muir Woods, and the Santa Cruz Mountains
It’s not too late to register! You can register on line or download a registration form and fax it to me at (707) 433-3239 and make payment easily through paypal.
This is going to be an exciting weekend of driving and socializing. Be sure to join us.

I will be there if I survive the ground-shaking excitement that Mini ordered up as part of the Mini Takes the States event here in Southern California.
Here's my take on yesterday's earthquake, centered in the Chino Hills, about 23 miles from where I was driving:

Here is good news for those of you that have been dragging your feet!
Because of recent announcements from both Mini Mania and Moss Motors promoting the Magical Mystery Mini Tour, and extensions for the "final number of participants" given to us from our vendors; we have extended the cut-off date for registration of $100 per car until August 20th. Therefore you can continue registering using our dedicated web site until then.
After August 20th, advance registrations will no longer be accepted online but registration will be allowed at the door on the days of the event as space allows. The cost of "at the door" registration will be posted shortly. Only cash payments will be accepted on the day of the event.
Unfortunately the tee shirt order has to be placed today (August 1st) so there will be no more pre-ordering of the event tee shirts. I will have some additional tee shirts available on Treasure Island but they will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Supplies will intentionally be limited since I want them all sold before the event is over. The tee shirt option has been removed from the downloadable registration and PayPal forms.
I look forward to seeing you all having fun on this exciting weekend!

Allen and I have a list going that we will be sending out soon to everyone that answered my initial ping on who was going. Let me know if you want to be added to the list by sending a mail to events@pdxmini.org. Please keep in mind this is a hook up and not club organized. We are just trying to facilitate some company to those that wish to have it.

There will be a lot of Mini-MINI clubs represented at MMMT on Treasure Island! Thanks to everyone that has signed up. You'll help make this a great success! Just so you know, registration has been extended to August 20th at the same $100 per car price. There will be no additional online registrations accepted after August 20, although day of event registration may be allowed if space permits.
I want everyone to know that club members will be able to park together throughout the weekend. We will assign locations for clubs represented with "at-large attendees mixed between the clubs. Clubs will also be able to set up club tent type booths and post banners to promote their clubs at no cost if they desire, if manned by paid registrants. Club booths will be able to be set up either in the parking lot or near the vendor's village on the grass depending on space restraints. We will determine that on Thursday when we are doing our final "set-up" touches.

As of August 4 (I haven't gone thru the newest registrations), we have 5 cars registered coming out of Washington and 14 out of Oregon... you should be able to get a pretty good group traveling south.
Please bring your club banner an/or tent (booth). I would love to see the bigger groups and clubs represented.

MINI of San Francisco has been gracious and just sent an email to about 50,000 people on their mailing list announcing the Magical Mystery Mini Tour. In fairness to those hearing about this event for the first time, we are extending registration from August 20 to August 31.
As mentioned in my earlier posts, we have come up with a single day policy for new registrants. Obviously, if you want to attend Saturday only, that is the day that has the bulk of our costs. So Saturday only pre-registration is now available until August 31st.
Saturday Only Registration will include access for one car and one banquet ticket. All events on Saturday are included as well as access to the concert. Cost $80.00. Each additional dinner ticket is $30.00. - This is available as a pre-event registration only and payment must be received by August 31st.
Day of Event Registration (price is per person, not per car) includes all events except the winery tour, baseball game, banquet and breakfast:

We have 15 cars registered for MMMT coming out of Oregon
and about half that many coming out of Washington.... You guys could have quite the caravan traveling south! If there are any others interested, please get your registrations and payments in by August 31.
Also, please bring your club banner and/or tent (if you have one). Feel free to bring your club swag and grill badges to sell to those that collect from other clubs...
As mentioned earlier, the registration booth opens at noon on Friday and will be open all day Saturday and at least half the day on Sunday.
We will have plenty of quality door prizes at the Banquet Dinner and vendors may or may not have additional drawings at their booths. I believe there will be over $6500 worth of goods donated from registered vendors and companies sending goods that are unable to attend.

Are you putting the Oregon clubs next to one another in the parking area? There is some cross-membership and it would be nice, if possible, to be close together.
John
yes, but fortunately it won't be like other events where cars will be spralled out all over the place... we have a very large rectangular parking lot that will easily fit all registered, and there will only be Mini-MINIs there. We will likely have a few loose parkiing spots between each club (since there are many that did not indicate club affiliation). If you are there early enough Friday morning, you can help us lay out the parking lot.
Will any of those Oregon clubs need space for a club tent? There will be many places suitable for hanging club banners.

I don't know if anyone from Portland will be bringing a tent or canopy. Hopefully, someone will see your post here and respond if they are. I'll send out a group email to those who are signed up and ask the same thing.
I'll post here since I was in the thread anyway.
Being born and raised in San Francisco I have no interest in any of the events. But I do want to visit the vendors area and also see all the MINIs people will be driving.
If I plan to attend on Saturday, how does it work, is there a $20 charge for that one day's admission?
Second, how do I get out there? There's a MUNI bus that goes out to Treasure Island, will that be running? [I assume you did not get San Francisco MUNI to suspend bus service.
] Or will the Shuttle be more convenient and can I take the shuttle FROM San Francisco and back? I ask this because I do NOT plan on driving my MINI to the event.
http://transit.511.org/accessible/sc...id=SF&rted=108
If I can take the shuttle, where does that stop in San Francisco? Maybe the Ferry Building?
Sidenote for others: Treasure Island is a very historical spot in relation to San Francisco. It's a great place to walk around to simply take in the history. One thing you can do is look online for Treasure Island history, maybe print some pics and then walk around T. I. to compare then and now.
A fun thing is to look up and check out pics of when they had the "worlds fair" [International Exposition] in the late 1930s on T.I. Some buildings from back then are still on the island.
The event organizers are right, T. I. is a great place to have this event. Lots of great pic opportunities to take of San Francisco, Alcatraz and the water.
If you love your MINI and looking at other MINIs, and appreciate San Francisco, bring your tripod and plan to spend the entire day on T. I.

Hi MichaelSF,
Thanks for the cool tips about the history of Treasure Island.
I think you can still drive your MINI over to the Island, but you'll have to park in the "Out of Bound" area, you can look at all the MINI/Minis in the "Clubs" area ,but they won't into the Vendor's area without paying the $50.00 for Saturday only.
I don't know about that;
The vendor's had to pay to show and then someone who just wants to see the MINI/Minis and check out what the vendors have to sell, they have to pay too???
Am I not seeing something here?
We're going for the full nine yards, the runs, the shine $ show, the banquet, all the MINI/Minis and all the "old" and "new" friends to meet.
Peace & Love,
Keith

Here's the latest news, posted by Norm on the REME site:
I (want) to give you a better idea of what to expect when you get to the Magical Mystery Mini Tour:
When you arrive at Treasure Island you will enter the Great Lawn area. As you drive by the Island Market & Deli (that was the old guard shack). The road will jog left and then straight on the Avenue of the Palms, along the water and you will be greeted there. If you have pre-registered and paid, your name should be on the list. The greeter will check off your name and direct you to the proper parking area. We will have club parking sections for those that wish to park with "their" club. If your name is NOT on the list you will be directed to an "interm" parking area and asked to go directly to registration to get the reg/goodie packet and your tickets, wrist band, and window sticker before you are able to park with your club. We hope this process will help eliminate a "bottle neck" for those arriving.
Once you arrive please come to the registration booth. We will have your registration/goodie bags there. We have them organized in alphabetical order and will have signs up indicating which table will have your packet. Please check your packet and sign in so that we know you have arrived and gotten your packet. You will have your dinner tickets, breakfast tickets, wrist bands, window stickers, program with schedule and maps, plus alot of "goodies" from the vendors. Be sure to keep your tickets in a safe place. One ticket will be used for dinner, the other for raffle prizes, and the other for breakfast. We ask that you write your name on the back of the dinner ticket that you are turning in for dinner and keep the other ticket so that when we pull that ticket for prizes, we can call out your name as well as the ticket number. You must be present and have have your ticket to win any prizes.
Your wrist bands will identify you as a registered participant and you will have access to all events and activities, except the Andretti Wine Tour and SF Giants Game. You will only be able to enter the Main Event tent if you have a wrist band. There will be a security guard at the entrance checking for wrist bands. The main event tent will house the display MINI/Minis, it will have tables and chairs set up so you can go a rest, visit, talk, eat, away from the public. This is also where we will have the dinner & banquet, and there will be adult beverage service in the main event tent on Friday & Saturday evenings.
San Francisco Deli will provide no-host food service on Friday & Saturday.
At registration we will have sign up sheets for runs and events. We ask that you sign up for the runs and events so we have an idea of how many people will be going on each.
We will have some overlapping runs on both days. These will be the "longer" versions of the Marin Headlands and Santa Cruz Mountain Runs. These are provided for those that want to "drive" all day. The shorter versions are provided for those that want to get a chance to drive some of our local roads and see the "sights". These will be about 2-3 hours long, allowing you to return to MMMT and enjoy the vendor village, visit with freinds, check out all the MINI/Minis, or take a drive to San Francisco for some shopping and sightseeing. We do encourage you to visit and hang-out in the vendor village. These vendors have paid fees in suppot of our event and brought their "KOOL" products.
The window stickers are static cling and are to be placed on the inside of you windshield, upper, drivers side. This will identifiy your MINI/Mini as a participant and allow you access to the runs, parking, and in & out privilages.
The will be NO organized runs on Friday. We will have the "Carrtunes" playing on stage, starting at 7PM until 10PM on Friday. They will also be playing from 4-6PM on Saturday. We will have a "short & sweet" awards ceramony which will include the British Consulate General's welcome, the raffle of prizes, Rob & Christophers announcements, before the Sun Kings begin at 7PM.
There will be the "kids' coloring contest, which will be judged by club "hippie" Jerry Del (Smokey). We also plan some face painting, and a frisbee contest for the kids.
We will have MINI/Mini award plaques for various themed catagories. So decorate your Mini if you want to win.
We will have a detailing demonstrations throughout the event. If you have a MINI/Mini that has not been washed or "needs" help, please contact Ben Smith when you arrive. He will be selecting the "worst" Mini to use in his demos.
The event schedules & route maps are included in your program and will be in your registration packet. If you are arriving on Saturday and plan to go on the first run, be at registration by 8AM so that you have time to register before our first run begins. ALL the runs will be run "at your pace" meaning that you should have your route maps with you follow them, but feel free to stop along the way to rest, sightsee, or take photos. It is impossible to keep groups of cars together in San Francisco and across the Golden Gate Bridge, so we won't attemp to keep eveyone in single file. There are enough stops sign in the city that we could never keep our group together. We will have stopping points along the route where we can re-group. There will be MMMT swag and memorabilia which maybe in limited supplies, so get your stuff early while supplies last. We will have event MMMT T-Shirts, REME T-Shirts, MMMT Posters, MMMT Buttons, MMMT Coffee Mugs, MMMT Frisbees, Grille Badges, Mini Parking Cones, 2008 & 2006 MTTS Posters, and plenty more.
We will have our sunrise beach bonfire & breakfast EARLY on Sunday moring. Jerry Del Has graciously volunteer to get up REALLY early and start the bonfire. If you are coming for Sunday only, it would be wise to come by earlier this week (Thursday afternoon, Friday , or Saturday) to oick up your registration packet or make some arrangements,as this will be an early start.
I am sure I have forgotten several items I wanted to mention, so there will be a registration/information tent at MMMT so you can get your answers there.
Please bring your FRS/GMRS radios set for channel 7 sub-channel 21.
There is an ATM machine at the Island Market & Deli on TI, but they may not be open the entire time. Since there is no WiFi we are unable to accept paypal. So please plan ahead and bring some cash just in case.
You can park your MINI in the parking lot overnight. We will have the area lighted and a security guards will be on duty. No overnight camping or RV's.
Bridge tolls across the Golden Gate will go up as of today, so it's now $6 to cross that bridge. The Bay Bridge ($4) has not changed.

Hi everyone from Oregon.... it's a real count down!
I wanted to remind everyone to bring their club name tags and club swag and wear them proudly! You are going to help REME show the world how we throw a party here in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest!
We have participants coming from all-corners of the US, Canada, Asia, & Europe. although REME members will make up about 45% of the total registrants, PDX MINI is next best represented participating club with strong represntation from clubs in Oregon, Washington, and MOASF and NorCal (both SF Bay Area clubs)!
Norm is already in San Francisco (or will be this morning) and so are a handful of out-of-state and international participants. I should be there by 11 am tomorrow morning. I hope to meet all participants there. Remember, it's not too late to join the fun. If you are not registered, you can register during the event. There will be limited supplies of event swag available at the registration booth.
THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!

I just wish I could get one or more Minis to drive up with me.
