I grew up in Wyoming so I would have to agree. We really don't consider Jackson part of Wyoming though because of all the tourist, wanabe cowboys, snooty rich folk and land barons (aka Ted Turner).
Aside from all that, the beauty of the rest of the state kinda grows on you.

How about Thermopolis? We ended up staying there overnight in our drive across country, it was quite the trip (and in a Mini too)
I do understand what you mean being an old bird myself. Really Thermop is a nice town, but the air is a fowl with sulphur. Peaceful though, after dark not so much as a peep.
I had a bird hit my fogs one time on the Interstate up in WY. NOT a pretty sight.
i once had a bird get stuck inside under the hood of my new (at the time)
98 prelude while i was carving the canyons in Malibu. i knew i hit it,
but i thought the bird fell out.. i actually took him home still stuck
inside the front bumper/hood latch area. was living at an
aparment at the time so the car was in the 2nd floor parking garage.
then mr. opossom came by, took him home. i had feathers all under
my car and couldn't figure out why until... aha!!
I'd say that driver was pheasantly surprised by how well his car held up under the circumstances. The police are investigating, believing there was fowl play involved in the wreck. "Total cluck-up" one witness was heard to have cackled.
