Thinking About Selling the Mini
Thinking About Selling the Mini
Well ive had my current Mini for almost two months now and I was giving some serious thoughts to selling it. I love the way it looks and handles. However, Ive always wanted to own an American Muscle Car. I found a really Great Deal on a 2006 Pontiac GTO and I was thinking about jumping on it. My mini is paid off and im sure id only be finacing a small amount. Insurence is a lot, but Its a small price to pay for 400hp. I dont know im confused right now..... What should I do ?
Well, once the seed is planted its hard to stop. You obviously have your reasons, and there is no way to stop you from thinking this way. Maybe if we said "Your MINI will be worth $1094097 dollars!!" I am doing the exact opposite of you, I own an '86 Corvette and I am going to a MINI. (its still for sale) So I guess to each his own.

I think I would reach for the Daytona Charger if I were going to take the US muscle car route.
If you are now changing your mind only 2 months after purchasing a Mini that you are otherwise happy with, I have to wonder if maybe you have more money on your hands than you need, or more money than you know what to do with. Lucky for you, I CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT PROBLEM(!) Take your pick from the following: Tuition bills, medical bills, or if you're really in a benevolent mood how about my legal bills for the 4 year long custody battle? Will certainly make you think twice before mating cars and struggling with their off-spring!

Assuming you're not independently wealthy, you're not going to be able to own every car you want at the same time, so if you want the GTO, go for it. if you change your mind later, there will still be MINIs around.

GTO is soon to be discontinued. Great car overall, but it was a HUGE marketing flop. I would not be surprised if you can still find a brand new 2005 GTO under a thick pile of dust in some Pontiac dealership.
Be aware the GTO has next to ZERO resale value. If in 2 months you decide to "change" your mind and move onto the next cool thing, you'll find yourself in a financial predicament trying to dump in on either a private sale or trade in.
400Hp? Nice, but who needs 400HP in the street? Oh and that 5.7L or 6.0L V8 is thirsty for fossil fuels.
If the GTO had come out say 5-6 years ago (before the MINI became available) I would have probably gone for one. Gas was cheap back in those days and the GTO is one of the best built GM cars has to offer. The interior is fantastic and the fit and finish are more Toyota than GM. Too bad the car flopped here but was a success in its home market (Australia) where is/was sold as the Holden Monaro CV8 coupe.

c4, with the stick the gto isnt that thirsty, i think it pulls something like 18 city (alright not that great) and 28 hwy (which i think is pretty stellar for a v-8 350+ hp (dependent on engine) car)
Considering the size and output, 18MPG is not bad for a muscle car like this. Still, filling up a 18+ gallon gas tank @ $2.30/per gallon still isn't cheap. Heck at least in runs on regular.
But the GTO seats 4 comfortably and can be had for $ubstantially less than a Corvette hardtop. To me the GTO is the "affordable" 4 seater Corvette. too bad the design was such a big turn off in this country, spcially for hardcore old GTO fans.
I hope GM revives the Firebird/Camaro, because once again, Pontiac will be left off without a RWD car.

I am very happy with my Mini Cooper, I just need something larger. Gas isnt a major concern with me because I don't drive too far to work. I paid the Mini off when I bought it 25k with Tax and everything. I had saved for a couple years and also sold my 2003 Civic SI which was a graduation gift. I do have a decent job and the Mini has a great resale value so I can get most of my money back for it. The Gto i want is only 22k Brand New!! Which is amazing for a car with a Vette engine. Im thinking about just staying with the Mini. After I made this post and got in my Mini I realized how much I need her! =) Maybe I should jsut save for another!!! Make it a Family of Mini's!!!
