Drove the M5

Ok so this morning was pretty slow and we have a slightly preowned 2006 M5 on the lot........Oh what to do??? DRIVE IT!!!! Since the introduction all incoming car have been presold so I never really had a chance to drive 'the beast'.

The car has around 4K miles so the break-in period was done. The car was sold to us by a customer who ordered an M6 2 years ago and just wanted something to drive while he waited.......the hardships people have to go through .....Anyways when you first start up the V10 it sounds like a diesel from a truck pretty scary considering the amount you pay for the car. Once it warms up......well thats another story . Under acceleration the Formula 1 derived V10 screams.......FREAKN AWESOME!!!

So I hopped onto the 101 and this car is no joke.......0 to jail in less than 4.5 sec. Its amazing by pressing the "m button" you go from a measly 400HP to 507HP . The 7 speed SMG is so much better than that offered on the e46 M3. Nice smooth shifts, and blips the throttle on the downshift. The steering is very smooth and spot on. Considering the suspension and the massive wheels the ride is also smooth. Here in lies the problem.......the car is too smooth almost numbing . There is so much tech in this car any idiot can drive it like they actually know what they are doing. With technology we advance unfortunately something is lost.....its the soul of BMW.

I recently heard BMW is doing away with the solgan "The Ultimate Driving Machine" I guess they have already incorporated that into production .

Funny that you posted this as I literally just got back from doing the weekly wash on one of my customers 2006 M5 .

Unfortunately, all I ever get to do is pull it in and out of the garage . M5's are such amazing cars .

I drove a brand new one that a friend bought. Liked everything except the tranny was a bit nochy when the hammer was down. Also the interior was a bit dated, but other than those minor issues beautiful car.

They haven't scrapped the "Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan for good, they're just doing that "company of ideas" thing for now.

Hahaha, thanks . The only thing that bothers me about that picture is that I forgot to apply the brakes for the after picture, and thus there is a rusty rotor behind the wheel ....oh well.

Oh, by the way...here is the picture of the M5 I work on weekly from the guys web blog, http://www.texasm5.com :
