What I'll Trade The MINI For (Camaro)
I think that Dodge will build the Challenger, the problem is, if you've seen a new Charger first hand, it's huge.. I've read they intend to use the same platform, and it's just too big to make an athletic car IMO. Even with a giant hemi it could be a lumbering beast I suspect. Nevertheless it is very attractive =)
The '68-'69 era Camaro is one of my favorite cars (in the top 10) especially in midnight blue or black.. and it's sibling Firebird like in the Matrix chase scene- absolutely stunning car. I'd love to see it revived if they have the guts to build it well and give it some edgy features.
I agree with the thought that Chevy (GM) is at a crossroads- if they don't soon build some attractive, passionate automobiles of a decent quality they will disappear. The new Corvette is just beyond sweet, but if you look at the Malibu, Cobalt, and other offerings they totally lack any interesting qualities.
The HHR is interesting, but somehow it still seems tepid rather than hot, I just dunno.
I joke that the Camry is the most reliably dull car on the road and it seems like US automakers keep trying to steal that award away, only they usually forget the reliable part- lol.

While I weave and shove my way through all of the negative criticism, I'm gonna give that Camaro concept a thumbs up. Looks like a beauty of a beast that I'd like to have in my driveway. Any more pics of it? I personally always wanted to get my hands on a '67 SS Camaro. Some fine day. But that new style will take its place nicely.
Cheers,
Cheers,
IT's good looking, for sure..

We'll see what the general will do, but based on past performance, my hopes aren't high.
Did anyone hear Wagoners (I think that's his name) interview from the Detroit Auto Show? Sounded like there are no problems in his mind.... Probably just contentless optimism for the masses....
Matt
Look guys, even though its a Camaro, its still a Chevy.
Every car guy knows that 300 horse of Mopar or Ford power is greater than 300 horse of Chevy power.
And as one of my good friends once told me, "aint no way my Mopar is gettin juice, cause nitrous is for Chevys!"
I love rilling up the Chevy lovers. Fire away guys!

I'll take the bait...
Considering GM has underrated their engines since the early 60s, I disagree.
A new Z06 is faster than a Viper with 1.3 liters less displacement.
And I like the Concept Camaro except for the front end. Build it and it will indeed be what I trade my MCS for, if I don't need a minivan by then.

Reference an issue of Mopar Muscle from last year for those numbers.
Everyone underated in the late 60s and early 70s...
But you can't knock the small block chevy. It's still doing amazing things. If Chevy had done a better job of the introduction of fuel injection, the 5.0 Ford wouldn't have stood a chance against the 350s... But Ford did a better job on EFI, and all of a sudden, the hot rod crowd (not for carborated cars) started getting on the ford bandwagon.
Im a Mustang guy more than a Ford guy. I wish Ford had standardized on the 351 instead of the 302. Chevy cars have pretty much outperformed the market competition from Ford on paper, but the camero/firebird bit the dust for other reasons..... Sure wasn't avaialbe power.
But don't hold your breath for the Camero concept. It has clean lines, and while the rear quarter screams mustang to me, the roof line sure brings back my friends 69 396 SS!
Who knows... IF they do make a 6 to go with the more powerful cars, they might actually get some fleet sales!

My neighbor has a '68 SS. I helped him put the big block back in it after it was rebuilt. What a beast. That's actually what got me into cars
.
Dr Obnsx, I always wondered why the Camaro went the way of the dodo bird and the Mustang keeps selling well. The Camaro had a larger engine, more power, and better gas mileage
.
Anyway, when will Detroit stop living in the past and come up with some new ideas? The days of the gas guzzling muscle cars are over. Why keep putting the names back on when they can't live up to the performance from 40 years ago?

I hope it's the TR-3 or TR-6

Just before Xmas, I restored the finish on this '68 Camaro Convertible using Meguiar's products--a Makita rotary and a Porter Cable PC were my tools and about 12 hours of work!

It began like this

And a composite

.And as usual, Chevy is jumping on the bandwagon too late with too little. Just like the HHR, this Camaro concept is underwhelming and derivative. ZZZZZZZZZZ....
That camaro concept is weak, looks like th edesigners took one of the new chrysler cars and some of their concept ideas and ran with it. Chevy has to do better than that if they want to actually sell any. Either that or it will need to be 500+hp and get 35mpg.
Sorry but thats my opinion, I have had a 69 camaro and a bunck of other muscle cars and it discusta me some of the cars they choose to put classic names on, the malibu and monte carlo come to mind along with that thing they are going to call a camaro ? Anyone wonder why they arent selling cars ?

Chevy is back to being the #1 selling brand again so somebody's buying them. I think GM just has to cut some more fat and they'll be great.
And maybe the Chrysler Kool-Aid will taste better to me when they can have TWO decent platforms. Every company has a hit...the hard part is sustaining. Their non-LX platform products are right down there on par with GM. And if you have seen the new Chrysler Aspen SUV....that sure ain't gonna keep the ball rolling.
