C'mon, do you really want to go there? Thats political and you know it. You want oil, go drill in Alaska.

This is just your personal opinion ... and you have every right to it. See http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosins...A01-301633.htm

If you really think SUVs are just going to go away, your dreaming. Yes, they might get smaller but they will exist.

As to people buying what they don't use ... What do you care? Your car can go 135mph ... do you use it all the time. Then why buy something you cant use? This argument about not using the capabilities of a vehicle is just a red herring. Anytime you say someone has a Hummer and doesn't take it off-road ... so what? Its THEIR money.

Do you know people with 5 bedroom house and no kids? Why the extra bedrooms? What a waste of OIL or electricity to run it.

I would not try to presume an understanding of other peoples motives unless you live in their shoes.

That Said. Phew. I love a good debate. (either side) We need to get together and toss a few down

I agree...an unexpected fad, and a tragically long-running fad, but a fad nonetheless.

So, so true...I remember well all the debate and rhetoric of the time. Did we get it? Apparently not. Did Detroit get it? No. Did I get it? Yup.

btw, I raised my family well before the SUV fad happened....no problem. There are alternatives out there, although not many of them are being pushed on the American public at the moment, if they are presently available at all. Auto makers can...and should...do better.

Our SUV rants in the end aren't focussed as much at owners as they are at a run-away culture which seems at odds w/ where we need to be in relation to energy use, domestic economics, and the environment. What we need is auto makers who will get a clue and offer us safer, cleaner, smarter vehical choices that are still practical for everyday use (however one defines that).

Maybe some SUV owners have loads of money and don't give a flyin' flip what they cost to run, but I guarantee (at least around here where I live) that for every one of those big spender there are thirty for whom SUV ownership is a real burden.

Finally, this site is all about MINIs and MINI enthusiasm. MINIs are small. SUVs are big. Remember the early "SUV backlash" ads? Remember the "Let's sip not guzzle" ads? That's why we tend to poke fun at SUVs...it's just a "thing" that's all.

ROFL. ANYTIME!

It really is funny to see all the diatribe and then listen to the other side spewing their hatred for those "itty bitty" toy cars. Every argument has two sides.

Diversity is a good thing.
