I watched poignantly as the new owner of my white '97 328is drove off today. That was the best car I've owned to date, and I'll miss it.
Of course, I'll be taking delivery of my Jet Black MCS at the end of April, so there is some mitigation.
Anyway, I have noticed that there are more than just a few folks who have gone from BMWs to MINIs. What was your transition like? Are there some things you miss about your old cars? Or is the MINI experience so splendid, you haven't looked back?
As for now, good bye, White Stallion!

There isn't a car out there for a reasonable amount of money that I'd rather have.
...except a MINI exactly like the one I have now + an LSD
I think as soon as you drive your MINI for the first time, you won't miss the BMW anymore....
But I know how it is to say good bye to a car you truly love....

Well, I'm lucky, I get to keep one BMW (an 02 M Coupe) around, and nothing could really replace that unique car. We are selling a BMW for the Mini though, a 3 series as well, an E46 coupe. I've loved the handsome torque-y Dinan 3 and it is tough selling it :( The things I miss a bit when driving the Mini sometimes include the cockpit like layout/feel of the E46's driver's area, the lower solid feel of the car, rear wheel drive in some circumstances, the ability to carry really long objects, and darn if I don't wish the Mini had the auto tilt in reverse passenger mirror for parking
. It's a different beast then the Mini.
That said I do really love driving the Mini and utilizing its taught maneuverability. There are also lots of little touches I enjoy about the car too (the puddle lamps and lit door handles are among the thoughtful and nifty ones that come to mind), it is certainly not a step down in amenities from the BMW if you order the goodies you want.
The car is just so nimble and fun you can't help but fall in love with it. You won't regret it, don't worry

Hey, Eval, thanks. Yes, that e46 is very nice--VERY solid.
Actually, when speccing my MCS, I desided that I wanted to eschew as many of the luxo items as possible. No sun roof, auto climate control, or OBC. I want the MINI to be as different as possible, and, admittedly, this is probably because I don't want to miss my beloved e36 so much.
BTW, I used to have a '95 M3, and, well, I don't need to tell you about how much fun that was--but it wasn't MINI fun. It was a very serious kinda fun. You know, the kinda fun of hunting . . .

It's funny how some people...including me....grow so attached to their cars as if they're a loyal companion of sorts, which some cars, I suppose, really are. Some of these attachments can last for decades or even lifetimes!
Don't worry, Johnny, I'll bet you're gonna have it bad for your new MCS when it gets here. I don't know one single MINI owner who wasn't swept off their feet once they got to motoring in their own MINIs. If you're gotta part w/ your beloved 328, at least you're moving to an equally mesmerizing vehicle.

I can't think of another car under $50k that I'd enjoy as much as my MINI.
I sort of got rid of a BMW for a MINI. At the time I bought the MINI, I had a 2002 M Roadster. My husband has/had a 540i. The roadster went away for financial reasons, and the 540i has one more lease payment and it goes away. HE gets the MINI as a daily driver, I get a 10AE Miata for mine. This eases the pain of the Roadster leaving.
Different animals, the BMWs and the MINI...MEAN power from the Bimmers.
Will I miss the Bimmers? yep. Do I regret them going away? Nope.

I went from a BMW 745i to my MCS 05 - and I haven't looked back! Couldn't be happier. There is NOTHING I miss about the 745... nothing!
Funny, I felt the same way as Monkey_Boy... when I first was looking at Mini's - the fact that BMW owned them was a negtive to me. But a small price to pay for such an excellent car!

Hmmmm....I went from an '02 Cooper to an '00 M Coupe...so I sort have done the reverse...and I don't regret that at all. The MINI reawakened a few car things in me that were dormant - and I view it as a nice transition, also met alot of people throught the MINI that I still talk to.
But the M Coupe is just a sick car....

Really? You don't miss the $1,200-per-visit-to-the-mechanic repair bills?
