Pulled over!

Fabulous...my 3rd ticket since buying the car in June 2002, and it's reckless (78/55). The other two were "normal" speeding.

I've got a really bad feeling about this, to quote any Star Wars movie.

Any suggestions on how to bump this ticket to below reckless? It was a MD state cop.

if you were guilty as charged, not sure you have a leg to stand on.If you got hosed,by a zealous statie who didn't get laid the night before and just had it out for you ,fight it all the way.....When I got had by a Mass state cop, he had my speed down to the millisecond: $305 ! paid it the same day.he promised to come to my house and arrest me for driving to endanger (6 months in jail) if I got another speeding ticket, and that he had flaged my license in the lap top in his cruiser. I'm a very different driver today and that's a good thing.peace(and maybe you also should slow down a little, huh big guy?)

Never pay a ticket...a lawyer can settle it for $50.00 no points/ no conviction. you might have to pay minimal court costs...Yellow Pages are full of them.

Nah, i don't Valentine... I would if I didn't have to cross into VA for work every day...then again, the hassle of turning it on/taking it down twice a day is less of a pain than getting 2 more points on my license.

BikeGuy57 -- you're putting me on, right?

I don't believe you could get a lawyer to even scratch his a$$ for only $50 !!

I agree with the lawyer suggestion. There are many agencies (at least in FL)that charge a flat rate and you don't pay anything if you get points. You don't even have to show up in court. That's how my husband and I have solved most tickets.

The law is different in each state, but you should look into that. Much cheaper than paying it and you will avoid points.

Radar detectors/scramblers are great too (if legal in your state)!! Well worth the investment.

My condolences to you... I advise you to get a lawyer. We can all try to give you advice, but you really need a professional to help you. Also laws vary so much from state to state, it wouldn't help much anyway.

I wish you luck in beating this, but expect to be flamed on the forum. For some reason, MINI forums have a very vocal group of people who really love the speed limit and adore cops . Since I live in a rural community with a tri-state reputation for being a notorious speed trap, I emphatically do NOT fall into that category.

I don't condone reckless or unsafe driving, nor especially drunk driving, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least to learn that you were driving in a completely safe manner; just faster than the arbritary "gimme some money" threshold.

Best of luck and let us know what happens.

Rawhyde,

I agree with you. I was very surprised to read in some other threads about the lack of sympathy for drivers caught speeding. I call cops "tax collectors", I think most of them have totally forgot about their mission:safety (not to mention their attitudes). Doing 90mph on an empty freeway is not unsafe (maybe they should go to Europe to check it out), and so are many other things they love to "tax" people on. Safety should be the issue on whether a ticket is deserved, not the monthly quota
What about a $300 ticket for not staying on the right lane of the freeway if you're not passing. It's so bad nowadays it's like driving in England, we have to pass on the right lane while people are cruising on the left. And don't get me started on those drivers who don't pay attention to driving (cell phones, drinking, eating, etc..) but never mind, I'm sure they have a perfect driving record...

capsfan13, best of luck with your ticket
