Z4 and ///M3 pics
I took these this morning down at Ralph Schomp BMW as my MINI was in for service (left xenon headlight wasn't autoleveling, so it was replaced under warrenty).
I liked the Z4 a little more in person, but it is really difficult to photograph well. That said, it's still enough to make me worry about the next 3-series and 5-series. Please someone stop Chris Bangle before he strikes again.

That hood is quite long.

There is just an amazing amount of room in the engine compartment, something the MINI doesn't exactly have. The MINI is a little easier on the eyes though.

The champion and still King... the ///M3

I like the way the overhead lights race down the hood, while the sun streams in through the grille.

No!! Don't do it Roy!! Granted, as much as that Tartan red interior would look nice open to the sky, I just don't think your resale value would be healthy.
Dave, that Z4 is a hard beast to photo. I saw it in person and ...whoa!
that is one fugly SOB. The hood is too long and flat. The front quarter panels are too busy. The top up look is hidious. Bangle needs to be drawn and quartered before he goes too far. It's like he had one good design (Z8) but can't come up with anything else.
Is it just me, or for the first time ever, could auto enthusiasts band together on an assasination attempt?!?

>>I might be completely outta the loop or something here, but don't it look kinda like a...pontiac?
say it ain't so! bimmer could never stoop to a level so low as a pontiac...
i'm still trying to decide if i like the Z4 or not... i like the long hood... but something about the contours just bothers me... too much carving and such

That's kind of ironic, considering that Bob Lutz has declared that he is going to turn Pontiac into an "American BMW". It looks like BMW is trying to make that an easier goal for Pontiac to reach.

Say what you will about Pontiac but the best American car I ever owned
was a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT. That car got fat over 100mph and had
a Getrag transmission to boot. The only problem with was a lack
of ponypower and Pontiac didn't keep it around long enough to
develop into what it could have been. That and you had to take the
Goodyear Eagle GTs off that came with it. IMHO.

Maybe the Z4 would look better in black. That might help hide some of the "flame surfacing."
Something else to consider:
BMW Z4: difficult to photograph well
MINI: difficult to not photograph well
FWIW, I think that speaks volumes.

And what's up with the air freshener side light. Looks like one of those "stick ups".
We saw it down at Euro 2002 and it seems a little too.....hard in it's lines, the interior is beautifull, just the exterior that grinds on me.

Too late, my friends... the spy pics I've seen in Autoweek show the new 5 and 6 series to be just as ugly as the 7 series. Am I allowed to puke on these cars so as to hide them from the masses?

the gto was great too, and with any luck it will be great again.
but lately pontiac hasn't been exciting... they've just been unsightly (see: vibe/ aztek) the company now isn't what it used to be.
i think we can all agree...kia sucks
