The inevitable I got pulled over
The inevitable I got pulled over
So In the midst of enjoying my minis capabilities of prestigious handling I somehow managed to get picked up doing 76 in a 35. Fortunately I'm a juvenile and this is my first offense I'm 17 what do you think they will do?
Depends on what state you're in. Where I come from (Louisiana) you'd have to go to court since you're under 18 and the judges don't think too kindly towards doubling the speed limit. I'd guess around $400-$500 for the ticket and probably driving school.
Fifty years ago they would have had a meeting with your parents before deciding what to do with you. I don't know what they do today. 76 in a 35 is beyond the pale. For a surpisingly modest fee you can drive your MINI as fast as it can corner legally and rather safely at an autocross near you.
I got 60 in a 30 5 months into my license. That was actually fortunate for me, I have hit 80-90 on that same stretch of road. Half a year later, I still haven't gone to court because LA courts are so backed up. Because I was 25+ over, I'm going to ask for traffic school b/c it isn't automatic I get it. Crossing my fingers I do. Will cost about $550 for me w/traffic school. If I didn't care about insurance rates, I could just pay 500.

I strongly suggest that you hire a lawyer who has a success record representing defendants in the traffic courts that you will hear your case. Understand their fees before hiring them. Get some professional advice on what your options are, and have them represent you. Don't just wait around and see what they may do to you--that is the wrong approach. I am concerned that 40 over may well be much more than a speeding citation.
In Louisiana there is a special plea you can make. It only is allowed once in a certain number of years and costs extra, but the court will NOT report the offense to your insurance and the record is expunged. Sorry I can't remember the technical jargon at the moment, it's been years and years since I had to do that.
I did get pulled over for speeding last year, but the officer let me go after making me stand outside my car in the cold for 10 minutes. Not sure why, but he was on his computer. Maybe got called away for something more important. I thanked him. Wasn't paying attention to my speed because it was a crummy day and just wanted to get home, but turned out to be my lucky day!
With the flow of traffic people!

Y'all have no idea how clogged up my opinion filter just got. Suffice it to say, contrary to the popular 17 year old belief system, nobody's bullet proof. One solution for the need for speed might be to not shift past second gear and run it up to about 5800 RPM and with the sound in your ears, imagine you're doing it in 6the gear.

I just chirp the tires when accelerating and handbrake turn into my driveway.

Keeps me at bay

Sounds like you got lucky. Here in Arizona 20 MPH over the speed limit is a criminal violation and you can get a free trip to jail. I suggest the attorney route also or minimally a consultation with one for advice.
+75 in a 35 and you've said repeatedly that you are a juvenile......
What I HOPE they do.... take your licence away until you learn to handle the huge responsibility that comes with driving a vehicle on public roads. Then serve 1 month community service and get called to motor vehicle accidents to pick up the body parts of
people who get maimed by this kind of irresponsible behaviour.
This is coming from someone who spent 1 year in and out of hospital after being struck
by speeding car- so don't expect sympathy from me.
What they will probably do? Give you a fine and the keys to your car to do it all over again.

I'm hoping to just pay a fine learn my lesson and be on my way but it's not up to me and from what everyone has been saying it seems to be up to hoe the judge is feeling that day. And this road is one most people cruise about 50 on I was on a downhill section and wasn't paying attention.
Living in Ohio I would say that you're going to get a hefty fine, loose your license for 90 days, do three weekends of community service and be required to attend driver education classes. I've lived here my whole life....there is absolutely no tolerance for juvenile driving offenses.

Seems like you don't understand the consequences of your action.....however the judge will be able to elaborate extensively I'm sure..
You reside in the wrong state for this offense.
When Ohio changed the law to allow driving permits to begin at 15 1/2 they also changed the laws for punishment of juveniles with traffic offenses and made them much stiffer. If said offenses are within the first 12 months after receiving license, (not 16th B-day).
Been thru this with my 2 teens. Fines, driving school, and loss of license.
So, depending on the offense and where it took place for the "35 zone" the punishment is automatic and not in the judges hands. It is dictated by law. No options.
You can look all of it up online in the Ohio revised code. Let google get you there.
Please try to learn from this mistake. It is not something to take lightly. Something horrible could have happened. You are lucky it didn't.

Up here in the frozen north, 40KM/h over and they can suspend your license and impound your vehicle, charge you with street racing (even if you're not racing anyone.) leaving you SOL on the side of the road. I got pulled over doing 120km/h in a 50 on my motorcycle. 3AM, heading to work, empty road... worlds most understanding cop let me off with a warning, but he did follow me all the way to work to make sure I'd learned my lesson.
I was 25 at the time, I'm 30 now. I'd be lying if I said I always obey the limit, but I don't speed like that anymore.
