Nuremberg Ring in Germany

Has anyone gone to the Nuremberg Ring in Germany for their "Visitor Grand Prix" days?? Seems pretty legit, the website says for 40 euro you get 20min on the track with your POV... Trying to convince the wife to take a trip there this spring

Many of us have. I used to live about an hour North of Venice for 3 years while I was in the Air Force and would make frequent trips up to Germany. Now, I live in Sicily and its difficult not living on the mainland with a car available. I only have 4.5 more months here and was hoping to make one last trip before returning to the States. What would you like to know about it?

You mean Nürburgring? Yes, been there and it was a huge blast. If you check out mini2.info, they usually have a trip out there once a year. (At least they used to do it).

Where are you located in Germany? Live in Heidelberg for 2 years and then in Weiden for 2. May try to move back soon..

Thanks for the spelling catch.. One of my co-workers told me about their "Visitor Days" which caught my attention. I went on their website that was kryptic in regards to the process for making that happen so I figured I'd hit up my new favorite Mini forum figuring someone had to have gone there. Do you remember if it was a big hassle?

I'm down in good 'ol Kaiserslautern, so looking at about a 2hr drive. Thanks for the info!

Mole: you've just discovered the car-guy's (gender neutral) Mecca. Here at the shop we have a driving simulator where we track fastest lap times. For more reading on lap times, start here:

It is not a hassle. When we went it required a harness (Schroth worked) and helmet as well as an orientation but it was a total blast.

I've never driven on it but people who have told me one thing: do NOT try to set a fast lap time. It's just too dangerous. Just last year, a Toyota test driver was killed when he lost control of his car. The great Jackie Stewart didn't call it the Green Hell for nothing. I've "driven" over 50 laps on it in Forza 4 and it's impossible for me to complete more than one lap without crashing once!!

Yeah, you never go blasting down a track that you have zero experience on, especially in your own car. Just go out and have fun with it.

Thanks for all of the info and advice. I dont plan on going there to set records or do anything crazy, I just wanted to do a lap or two before I dont have the chance to... Especially with it only being an hour away. Looks like a fun time though.

I took the BMW 3-day school there many years ago. It is a humbling experience. Watch your mirrors...Closing rates for some of the really fast cars are incredible. Oh, to be a "Ring-Meister"!

We went to the Nurburgring on our 2010 vacation. We did the normal "Touristenfahrten" (tourist drive) where you pay €22 an get one lap. We took a very leisurely lap each as we didn't want to stuff up the rental car.
