HA! Ha. Paper hats... (2:58)

Best scenes: 4:04, 4:37, 5:26, 6:22

These guys were hardcore though. No real safety gear, dangerous machines...this was real racing.

A fun video???

I'm guessing you didn't watch that video or somehow missed the fact that a driver died after his car went into the spectators killing over 80 of them. This has to be the darkest day in motor sports history.

While I love those old sports cars, that was not a fun video for me.

Point taken....but the overall tenor of the video was not tragic, it was simply an interesting report on a race and a British victory. The episode you mention, sad as it is, is not the emphasis of this particular piece.

Yep it was pretty light hearted considering the chaos that happened. A PR piece showing how Jags won with no mention of their competition dropping out.

We will never know for sure, but if you do some reading up on this particular race it is evident that Mercedes most likely would have won.

I was just surprised, and pleased, to find historic footage of this vintage on the web.

Not anymore, I tried to play it and got the message: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation"

EMY, if you go to you tube & search Le Mans 1955 you will find it along with others.

gokartride I meant nothing against you & your posting of that video. It is a wonderful video of those old cars & sights of racing in the 50's. It is also a reminder of how deadly racing was & can still be.

Motor on....

Very true....'57 Mille Miglia also comes to mind. Still, racing in those days was glorious in it's own way.

Yes those men were real iron men. Most drivers of today would refuse to drive any of those cars in anger on those courses of old. I believe the world rally drivers come the closest to the ability of those iron men of old. Glorious days indeed. Gone but not forgotten.

If you get Discovery HD Theater there is a wonderful 1 hour program about the 2006 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will be rebroadcast several times this month. Beautiful old machines being driven hard just as God intended.

Is that the "Shaken & Stirred" program, they follow a Vintage Aston Martin racing team at Spa? I have seen that and loved it; would recommend watching it you can.

No it is a different show. It is vintage racing at the Goodwood circuit in England. Catch it if you can.

"Shaken & Stirred" was a very enjoyable piece.
