Compared to the previous version it is too soft, too slow, too quiet and incredibly ugly.

Not only that I could not get comfortable.

The EVO X on the other hand should be called the Evil X - amazing car......

They're BOTH ugly as sin. The Subaru maybe a little less so.

the evo x is a better car, ie its electronic gizmos are better than the sti. but i like the new sti slightly better. it looks much better than the regular new wrx, and looks pretty good in wr blue w/ gold rims. plus w/ the subie you still get the feeling that you're driving a homologated rally racing car, whereas mitsubishi doesn't run in wrc anymore. they're still both amazing machines, and to some they're good looking in their own way...kinda like how a transformer toy looks good

word +1. when i knew i was getting rid of my m3 i really wanted to like the sti....my son hated it (though 10, a good judge of cars). didn't care for the styling, subie service (had an '02 stage 3 wrx), or that marketing campaign.....what were they thinking!

neither have the style or soul of the mini....and (at the risk of overstating the obvious) they are a totally different type of vehicle. couldn't fault anyone for getting either....just not for me.

I'll be replacing my Cherokee with an STI this time next year. The MINI is paid off and the Cherokee won't lose any value

The new Evo looks just like a Lancer on crack. The STi still manages to retain some of the down and dirty, no frills character it used to have. Granted, up to this year, they looked beastly. Both of them. But now, all I think when I see either of them is . Still can't get past that Dodge Sebring front end on the Scooby. But still, looks, i'd go STi. The Evo is just too plain. I'd like to see C&D or Road and Track do a side-by-side and see where the numbers end up at to make a decision based on that. If they're still as close as they always were, it becomes a subjective thing.

You'll just have to remember, you won't meet MINI-like people in either. It's going to be a lot of 18yo's with daddy's money or a lot of college age douches in knit hats and Tap-Out t-shirts.

I would either go with an EVO X or an older STi...both are awesome platforms to be silly with...

the new STI looks ALOT better in person than in the photos. still not a fan, give be the old 22B or the bug-eye generation.

as for the Evo X, it can look good

Grassroots Motorsports did a comparo of the new STI and EVO. The Evo is 200 lbs. heavier, (3,500) vs. 3300 lbs) and bigger. Mitsu is trying to upscale their offering and go after 3 series BMW.

I'm sure there are a lot of higher performance cars out there. To me, though having a great handling car with good straightline performance beats having a big car with great very high speed perfornance. I can get a kick out of driving without endangering the public or self with super high speeds.

Sometimes it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

IMO the Evo looks like a large mouth bass.

I do like the STI. If I was going to spend that kind of money it would be on the STI.

Just one old fart's opinion.

i like the Evo's appearance better between the two.

and secondly, subaru service sucks. i didnt like subaru that much
from the start, but as i started to like them (02wrx, 06 legacy),
they dissappointed me so much that now i just hate them. maybe
as much as i hate toyota cars.

looks aside, the evo x is the superior car compared to the sti right now. the new sti has pretty much stuck to the old formula with not too much new technology. sure it still has a trick manual-controllable differential, but from all the reviews i've read, even at the most radical rear-biased setting (and it's still only 59% rear), there's still understeer in the sti. the other gadget, the si-drive, doesn't really do much. on the other hand, the evo has gotten heavier and plusher, but its awd electronics are way more numerous and advanced than the sti. it has active diff like the sti that shuffles power b/t front and rear as well as yaw control that shuffles power b/t the rear wheels (left and right). on top of that there's the new twin clutch transmission that is amazing, reportedly shifts better and faster in auto than manual. mitsubishi has basically gone crazy w/ the evo x. it's probably the most techy road car out there and it's potent. don't get me wrong, the new sti is still a very fast and fun car for $, but the evo x, especially in mr trim, is better and always gonna be faster
