Wonderful things await us, according to General Motors

I just saw this exciting news story on the net that General Motors gloriously envisions driverless cars...here's the story...I can't wait.....maybe next they can come up with a mountain bike where you can just sit on it in your driveway and it will tell you that you are having fun now....

No, this is a good thing!!! Just think, we will have driverless cars to haul around the brain dead herd that is yapping on the cell phone and should not be driving anyway!

This may lead to a more stringent drivers test for the folks who want to drive a car which will lead to better drivers on the road!

I can't wait for this top happen!!!

Words....empty words!!! I used to believe in words. We were supposed to have flying cars by now, or at least rocket packs. Yes, I'm bitter.

I do but the cost of fueling it means it's cheaper to pay a chauffeur

Maybe GM should worry about making a car with a driver that works well ...

why catch up to the competition when you can plan your product line beyond what they're doing and get there first? big gamble, but bigger payoff. You can't out Honda and Toyota at this point. You need a paradigm shift in how you approach your business because let's face it....GM's strongest customer is car rental companies

the GM AUTOnomy makes a lot of sense, both from a consumer point of view and a manufacturing point of view

The article has a pretty "pie-in-the-sky" feel to it. So much so it's a bit of a joke.

Hhhhmmmm, I take it from this picture, this is what go get when you buy a GM The rest of the car must be an option Might make for a more reliable car if I can choose a toyota engine and drive train to go with it

Its too bad GM can't make a car that will fix itself instead. Then again, it would always be working overtime, so...

no, that's a common drivetrain/chassis and you get to choose the body to put on it. the idea is options without having GM making 40 different cars

body - we don't need no stinking body. A seat, steering wheel, and engine (if it's not hidden in the chassis) would actually make that thing pretty cool just the way it is.

Hmmm, sad to see all of the GM bashing going on here. They really don't make a bad vehicle (now) they have a lot of nice and Interesting product on the way and in the works. (plug for http://gminsidenew.com/forums here)

On the subject of driverless cars, they have been working on this project forever (heard about it YEARS ago), so, I'm not too sure how soon we will actually be seeing something.

To be honest, I can't wait to have all of those moms yakking on their phones, smacking the children, and not paying attention, not having to concentrate on driving too...

Ummm, GM is far from the only company working on automated transporation. You think Toyota and Honda are sitting idle and doing nothing? Not! I don't have examples handy, but Toyota has shown schematics of the entire system (road sensors, control systems, etc.) not just the car.

If I want to ride a train, I'll go ride one, so I have no interest in this. But with our crowded highways and increasing population in the US I think this clearly is the future. The only question is, is it 10 years away or 50? It's awfully hard to predict future technology AND the timing for it at the same time, so just like hydrogen fuel cells, it's possible, but it's a long way off from widespread use.

I'd rather a computer were driving other vehicles in traffic, much easier to get where I want to go. No worries about getting cut off, run over, or have someone blocking a move I want to make.

Maybe that is how GM beefs up their image. By removing the driver, there would be no one to complain about how crappy the car is.

I was going to buy a Corvette before I bought the Mini, until I test drove one. Talk about a rattling, creaky piece of junk! I could not beleive it. I really thought they had gotten passed those days.

The sales puke simply says, it's a Corvette, they make noises.

Besides, GM will be in bankruptcy before long due to the retirement plan they allowed to happen with the union workers. Most of their revenue is already going to x-employees or employees who are not working at all but cannot be fired.

The whole U.S. Auto business is going to fail. Not sure why they are still in this country. I would just file bankruptcy, close the doors, take the money and restart over seas. Makes more business sense.

If the driverless cars are kept to their own lanes, then I'm all for it. In fact, I could even go for that for commuting. Don't want the driverless mixed in with the "actively driving" lanes, however. I see that being a recipe for disaster, or at least extreme aggrivation.

Mother of a nanny...... =(

I guess that car is the mother of all nanny's. Holy Cr@p NO!!! Just what the world needs. Less involvement in the act of driving a car. As it is I see many driver-less cars every day. Anyone who wants such a thing should ride the bus or the train.

Maybe GM thinks a car without a driver will have less complaints from the drivers. Oh wait, no driver no complaint.

It's a scheme to lull you city folks into accepting public transprtation.
I've seen this "dream" for years. Also remember hearing how computers will make our lives easier, would have to work less, blah blah blah.
