Banning sport cars in Europe

Silly legislative ideas crack me up. Until they freighten me and get passed. This one is good for laughs though.

Yeah. Abuzavi wouldn't be able to go for milk and eggs if his car wouldn't go over 101mph.

I loved the reference to "stupid speeds"...

You know, my mama always said, "Stupid is as Stupid does."

As the MINI does well over 101 that would put a good number people out of work as it would close the factory-not a good move for the rep from the UK!

What a stupid plan...the Porsches and Ferraris are most often owned a weekend cars not daily drivers so they are drivin much less and thus put out much less CO2 than the average daily driver diesel Golf or the trucks- how about, let's work on cleaning up emissions not banning cars- as at least 80% of all cars (if not more) can go over 101 (162k)

Yeah, it'll never pass but I don't like the tone of the article itself. While he is right about cars being a small percentage of CO2 emissions, the writer seems like he's one of the people who doesn't care about the environment. Is he trying to worry me by saying Al Gore relies on scientists to tell him about global warming? And one more thing, who in the world would conclude an article by saying Italians love their Lamborghinis? In Italy, Ferrari is king.

"Doesn't believe An Inconvenient Truth" does not equal "Doesn't care about the environment"

There are lots of us "deniers" who were Boy Scouts, 4-H'ers, grew up on farms, are conservation minded, love the outdoors, etc.

I agree - the writing was a bit amateurish. But I doubt the writer "doesn't care about the environment".

And, yeah, Ferrari is King. :-)

My 140mph sports car......

a) Is substantially less polluting than my Mini Cooper S
b) Is around 30% better on fuel
c) Also Considerably lighter (1990lbs vs 2600+)
d) Takes up less road space

Oh, so it is less practical, but hey.....

I remembered the MR2 but I didn't think it fit all those areas- it's really under 2K lbs? Much lighter than I thought and 30% better on fuel ?(not the way you drive it )

Those little syders really slipped below the radar, I guess Toyota just didn't promote them very well. I follow a dark silver, deep red top/interior to work often. I'm not sure if that was a special edition or not but it is very nice looking.

The MR2 is a closely guarded secret - it is a suprisingly good track day toy a superb A-B car on a twisty road and it is even comfortable on a road-trip.

My pet theory regarding the poor sales......

It is just too cute looking and too quiet.

Simple as that really - if it where more pointy and a little snarly sounding it would have sold in massive numbers.

When I first drove one I was stunned at its abilities and when the salesman knocked $2K off because they where not selling too well I all but snatched his hand off.

Four years and 33K miles later I am still smitten.....

Before SUVs...

... the sportscar was the bane of the roads. How dare they flaunt conspicuous consumption like that! I remember reading editorials about how the sportscar was being attacked by the greenies.
Then the SUV lumbered upon the American scene, and sportscars became the low volume (low average CAFE) it's okay genere.
I heard about this on talk radio. Just another thing to bludgen us with. There already is a gas-guzzler tax, WTF?
Don't get me going...
