Larry... I'm glad that you posted this. Maybe we can setup a joint venture with all the N. CA clubs to get a club corral area. For those staying overnight, I've been working with a hotel to secure a club discount! Let me know if its something that Norcal, REME, Sierra Nevada and anyone else wants to try and organize together...

I think you're right Zied. I think it will be the fastest way to secure some corral space. I've have heard, from an un-named source, that the corral area is pretty well controlled by a porsche club and they sell the space out to other clubs. I'm not sure how this will work for this race, if MINIUSA is covering most of the cost, but at $65 per day -- per car, it can get pretty expensive. We need 35 to pre-register.
We can work out the details Zied for a REME/GCM event... I'd hope that Norcal and Sierra Nevada can jump on board too. We can turn this into a success!
Did you get my email Zied?

Anybody want to join together to get the 35 car minimum reservation? If everyone teams up we can easily do it. Details below
You can email me (norm@redwoodempiremini.com), or check the posts here on or the individual club sites. We will need a “central” registration location so that we aren’t duplicating registrations
Message for Gary at MC2[/
Local Mini folks -- I just talked to Doug Earle on Friday who is responsible for the events planning at the Monterey Historics in August. They've just concluded a meeting with MINI USA and planning is now really coming together for the event. This is a preview and heads-up, since none of the detailed info is public yet, but will be soon:
As has been announced, Cooper will be the featured marque, and Minis will be the favored cars at the event. MINI USA will be setting up a hospitality area for Mini owners on the barbeque island in the middle of the lagoon at the track, adjacent to the inner paved parking area between turns 2 and 3. This parking area will be reserved for Mini clubs on Saturday and Sunday. To book spaces in this club corral, clubs have to pre-register on behalf of their members, with a minimum of 35 reservations required. Costs are the same as for the regular event, $65 per person on Saturday, $45 on Sunday, but the convenient parking is a real plus when attending the event, and Minis parked in the clubs corral will have the opportunity to drive parade laps around the track on Saturday definitely, and possibly on Sunday as well.
More information on how to book club tickets is on the website www.montereyhistoric.com.
Of course, classic Mini Coopers will be racing during the weekend. We know that MiniCindy Shaffer, MC2 columnist, will be participating, as weill Don Racine in his Monte Carlo Rallye Mini. We expect that a number of the Mini suppliers will be in attendence, and Barry, Gary and Matt, as well as Cindy from MC2 magazine will be there on vendor row.
All details have not been worked out yet, but Doug said that one event taking place on Saturday would have the president of MINI and Michael Cooper would be delivering the first 45 JCW Grand Prix models in the United States to buyers who have already ordered them as part of the ceremonies on Saturday.
Also, MINI USA will be staging a two-week coast-to-coast rally from the Historics to Lime Rock for the Rolex historic races, starting from Monterey after the conclusion of the races.
The central club corral can handle about 500 cars, but with as many MINIs as there are in California, these spaces could go fast, so you may wish to get organized and book spaces for your club members soon.
Looking forward to seeing you in Monterey in August.
Cheers
Gary

I suggest that we set NAM as the central location. A thread has been started on GCM's site, but NAM will give us more overall exposure which will help us!
I've been working with a hotel in Monterey, but their group rate for this weekend is $199-$250. Pretty much everything is doubled in Monterey this weekend. The alternative would be to find a location in Salinas to stay at... This is a little cheaper

Tad,
Whatever works best. I'll post this message everywhere I can find a place. I just need to give everyone a place to register.

This is the page with the info. There is an orderform on there as well. It looks like we'd send one order form in with the amount of how many cars... it looks like $145 for three day pass (fri/Sat/Sun) & $119 for 2 day (sat/sun)
We are thinking of buying a block of 35 to secure our spot. Over half are spoken for. I'll talk to the other officers and get back to you in the next couple of days.
I have forms they sent us. Advance Tickets 3day $125, 2day Sat/sun $95, fri $45, sat $65, sun $45. $5 processing per order.

I made my reservations last month, and most area motels/hotels are already booked.

In the time it took me to type my message three other ones popped up. If you guys want to get your groups orders together I don't see why we couldn't tack it on to ours. I'll check with everyone else tomarrow it's to late now. Nobody gets left out of this one.
You've got NORCAL shirts right?

You people type faster than me. I'm four replys behind. One of our members in Salinas checked out all the hotels down there a month ago and found one room for one night. You might try Santa Cruz or Hollister.
Have we all agreed on the "group name"? Since there will be members from Nor Cal, REME, Gold Country, Sierra Nevada, MOASF, Mid Cal, and others, I suggest we call the group "Northern California Mini Owners" for this event. That way we will all count toward the 35 car minimum. I have gotten several responses from my email message, and I would like to respond with a "group name' and point of contact.
I suggest that Melanie Sibavan of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca be the point of contact. (see below) for access to forms and address to mail for tickets and registration.

Car Club Corral
Car clubs are very welcome at the Historics. The special parking corrals are second only to the paddock in the number and quality of exotic and historic cars present over the weekend. Clubs can take advantage of discounted ticket prices for their members, not to mention a special parking area. The corrals allow the clubs to showcase their cars and provide a place to meet and socialize for their members.
Order Form (PDF)
Club Corral Minimum Requirements are 35 advance tickets.
Deadline is Monday, June 26, 2006. Please mail this order form to Melanie Sibayan, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, P.O. Box 2078, Monterey, CA 93942

Whom do we send the money/info to at Norcal?
What about non-CA MINI owners attending the historics? I'm travelling to Salinas from Phoenix, and I already have my 3-day weekend ticket purchased because I also got a camping spot for that weekend. Is there any way to hook up with the clubs and park in the club area? I'd also like to get into the Club track drive as well.
I posted this Q in the other active historics thread as well to cover all my bases...
Thanks,
Larry

Slow down people
We took a poll of members and officers and they all said they would like to have NORCAL get its own space. This has been in the planning for a while. We have several things planned for our members. We have 35 cars committed already and more that are talking about it. Our original offer still stands. If anyone would like to join us (no they don't have to join our club) we will tack on their order to ours.
Important !!!!
I talked to Doug Earle and Gary Anderson today and they say the info on our sign up sheet stands. You must purchase you tickets with a club advance purchase. It must be at least 35 cars for Saturday and 35 for Sunday. We are also setting up a pub night on Saturday in Salinas. Sign up soon.
Tickets
If anyone would like us to order tickets please contact us at info@norcalminis.com if you are not a member. Members sign up on the web site. Please give number of cars, number of people and what days fri/sat/sun. Also your contact info. Your info will not be shared with anyone.
