BMD doesn't require a fire extinguiser..

but I've used the Brea-Krause seat mount. Moves with the seat...

I like it a lot!

You know, I think you're right. It was dry. I was confusing the PWDA event with a Trackmasters event I did at Laguna in the rain around the same time.

well, there is getting airborne over Turn 5 and landing on two wheels . . . it's OK as long as you keep the wheel straight, but can provide a "lurid moment" as David Hobbs would say.

Jerry, do you have many MINIs running HOD? I usually go with NCRC but I may try an HOD event this summer. I won't have my car back for May, but I should be back on the road in June or July.

Not many. One of my goals at Big MINI Day is to recruit more MINI drivers for HOD and T.E.A.M. Racing. I also like Trackmasters and Unlimited Laps. All 4 are fast, fun, well organized and safe. I highly recommend any of them.

I don't like NASA - too much carnage.

I've never tried NCRC, but my calendar is pretty full this year, so I don't know whether I can fit one of their events in.

NCRC is a great group to run with.

Guess what, I just was told that my cars on the boat. Should be in on 4/22, meaning that I:

will pick the car up in San Diego on May 8, party in Vegas for a bit, drive to Santa Barbara, sleep, drive home, Break in done before San Jose, sleep, then up to THill for BMD.

That assumes all timelines hold. I tried to email the organizer of BMD, but the email bounced. I want to figure out what to do about registration. Dont want to pay if I dont get my car...

NCRC just recently aquired Track Quest. At infineon in November there were 3 other MINI's.

What I really like about NCRC is they allow down running when there is room. I usually get two or three extra runs Even with this, the track is never crowded.

Might be there for Big MINI Day again.

Rare event to track with lots of MINIs. Great fun.

I've attended most of all the Bay Area Track clubs/organizations and I think each are terrific.
I encourage anyone just to go out and try a track/school event.

Surprising to see how many instructors teach at other events.

Over the past three years I've participated in over 100 track days with NASA and have never seen "carnage".
I highly recommend NASA.

Hey Mickey, hope you make it to BMD, it'll be good seeing you again.

Someone asked Jerry Kunzman what he liked best about racing and he replied, "Crashes". True story witnessed by Bill Haener. At my one NASA day, an HPDE/ Raceday combo at Thunderhill, we had a Mitsubishi racer poach into our intermediate HPDE group who proceeded to overcook the back straight and t-bone an innocent guy's brand new BMW that he'd been waiting 6 months for. Just about every session, someone came in on the hook. I saw a Thundercar so wadded up it looked like a ball of tinfoil with grass sticking out. Carnage. Not for me. You've been fortunate or this was a rarity. NASA is fine for racing that expendable racecar. Not so good for tracking your daily driver.

It was a good day. I had a few problems with the way it was run, no warm up laps, no cool down laps. For us in the A run group, I thought that was a bad way to run the cars. People were going ***** out on cold tires, etc... But it was all in the interest of time managment, so I cant fault them too much..And there were tons of people in the C and D groups where the risk of problems at pace wasnt as much of an issue. I think the show of hands was 80% novices...which is cool to see so many MINI owners taking it to the track.

Just a very few photos:

If May 11th Wasn't Enough...

Then come on out to Thunderhill on June 19th. Just a month away from SAMOA's track day and all of you are welcome. We already have 43 paid with another 5-6 in the mail...more than $7000 in raffle prizes have been collected. No Mini's are signed up yet, but we can always hope. This promises to be a super event and a successful fundraiser for CCFA. For $210 you get more than 2 hours of track time, instruction if requested, a catered lunch, liquids, and a huge raffle. We still have space in A and B groups for experienced and intermediate drivers, but just a couple of slots left in C (novice). So get your applications in. Hope to see ya there.

MAN!! What an awesome day!! Great track, great lunch, great people.... My day came to an end when my dad was driving and I was in the passenger seat. He came into turn 14 a bit too fast and the rear end kicked out, since he hasn't had any experience controlling a front wheel drive car he let go of the wheel thinking it would pull itself around or somethin'. So we ended up sliding off of the track and doing almost a 360. Windows were down and the passenger side got the wrath of dust and dry grass---------

I knew that I should have gone out to T-hill... Maybe next time I'll get out there and tear up the track. I'm thinking about going adifferent direction for my track days (spec Miata)... So the mods on the MINI may have to hold off for a bit!

What's the problem with spec miata? I can't really afford to take my MINI or another and turn it into a race car.... I'd love to. The next best thing is SM class!

That's one nice thing about Thunderhill...

Other than turn 11-13 (for those that don't know the track, that's three coupled turns by the back straight. There's a wall next to the back straight....), there's nothing really to hit other than some grass.....

Nothing really, Im just mouthing off...I fought with that same decission for about 14 months before I made a decission not to do SM. I did formula Mazda instead. and then almost took a front wing to the helmet in my last race. Back to the cars with roofs now...and I really really want to get spec MINI to be ask big as spec miata...

so in my evil plan to get SM to mean spec MINI, I scoff at spec miata.

But Im just being jerky...its a great way to get great racing done in a well organized series. But those damn miatas need eyelashes and liptstick they are so cute my hearts just not with those cars...
