Nikki Run #5

Okay gang, we've got ourselves a run!

DETAILS:

DATE: Sunday, February 26th

TIME: 9:00AM (depart @ 9:15)

PLACE: Xilinx parking lot - 85 & Union: 2100 Logic Drive San Jose, CA 95124

ROUTE: Hwy 25 - See Brian's options in post #31

Looks like there's a fair amount of interest in getting another run going... so let's start tossing ideas around. So far I've heard:

5 - Hwy 25 to Carmel
1 - Fort Bragg
2 - Big Sur
1 - Stinson Beach

Since the NorCal/REME run is Feb. 12, let's shoot for Feb. 19 or 26.

0 - 19th
8 - 26th

Post your input here!

What about Big Sur? There is a great place up there to have lunch/dinner that could accommodate a large group.
I would be up for a Fort Bragg run too. Never been there.

Big Sur would be great. How far is Ft. Bragg?

According to the map, Ft. Bragg is 164 miles North from San Francisco, but its up highway 1, so who knows. Count on a full days run up, so plan to go up Saturday and return Sunday.

That might be a tad bit too far for me. Would have to be a one day thing for me to go on. But hey, majority rules! Still might plan a run up to Big Sur anyways. Did it last year and it was a blast. We did a afternoon run, and did a early dinner and it was great. Lots of good company. Met up with some MINI owners down in Monterey who came along for the ride.

Thought that might be a bit much for some, especially if you are south of SF or Marin. That's why I thought you should count on a two day run if you are going to Ft. Bragg. If anybody in the So. Bay is planning a run down to Monterey or Big Sur, keep me posted. I'd prefer a Saturday run so I could spend the night and retun to Sonoma County on Sunday. I am working on a run in Marin up Mt. Tamalpias and then out to Stinson Beach, Bolinas, and then back over Alpine Lake to Fairfax. It will be posted soon on the REME web.

I would love to head down highway 25 out of Hollister.
There's no one out there <wink, wink> and it's a beautiful road.
Lot's of twisties, several really long straght-aways.

Maybe go down 25, cut across the Salinas Valley to Arroyo Seco, up and over the mountains, and down into Carmel Valley.

Here's some details about highway 25 http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway25.htm

Basically, I'm up for anything!

I'm with "myzamboni" for the 26th and Hwy25 as well. Hopefully I'll make this run, I've been having some issues with my rims, tires and alignment - so I wasn't able to make run #4. I'll be showing my car(5p-12a) @ hot import nights in San Jose on the 25th so hopefully I'll be able to get up in time to meet up with everyone.

I think we are doomed to never be able to join these runs We can only really commit a couple few hours to drives (including coming and going from whereever they are) and with the SO working 6 days a week now its even tougher to wrangle it. Guess we'll just keep going out on our own for our fun tandem jaunts. Love seeing the photos though, have fun guys (and make sure a lead car has a V1 ).

Awesome, Raj! Can't wait to see your new ride!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that our next Run will be on the 26th. And it looks like Highway 25 to Carmel is the likely route. Will give it a couple more days for any stragglers, then post the official results.

For those coming off of 101 I would recommend taking 156, through San Juan Bautista, to next light, right on Union and then right on Cienega (towards Hollister Hills). Follow Cienega all the way out to 25. Nice 2-lane, back country, road with enough twists to keep it interesting.

Thanks for the 'inside info'. I'll add this to the route.

Is it the 26th then? I'd love to join up. It's been a while since I've been on a run. Life's been busy. Plus it will allow me to meet some new faces! Do we have details setup yet? 25th or 26th works for me.

Here's the map for Highway 25 based upon the feedback so far.
It's going to be our longest drive yet with and estimated 225 miles from start to finish.

If you like, I could shorten the route:
Option 1 - 198 miles by cutting across the mountains from 25 directly into King City (a nice road and still a very nice, overall route).
Option 2 - 175 miles same as above but takes Old Stage Road out of Gonzales, along the side of the Salina Valley insead of going thru Carmel Valley (remote, flat, somewhat straight, rural roads. very nice ride too!!!)
