3 posts in a row, what a thread hog
Also, start looking around for FRS radios (those little handheld walkie-talkies). We need to have a good communications system to avoid the CHP event from Nikki Run #4!!
Any suggestions for a starting point around 85/17?

Very good idea, Brian!
I got a pair of Midland 410's from www.dickssportinggoods.com for $50.

I also have a pair. I can loan one out. I vote for route #1(the longer one). Meet up place in 85/17? There is a Park n' Ride just off the Camden Exit on 85. I think we can easily get back on the freeway from there. It's been a while since I've been in that area, but I think it could work. What do you think?
We need to decide if we will be going on the 'original' route, the 'Option 1' route, or the 'Option 2' route. Heres the breakdown
Original Route: 225 miles. All the way down 25 and thru Carmel Valley.
Option 1 - 198 miles. Same as the original route but cuts across the mountains from 25 directly into King City.
Option 2 - 175 miles same as above but takes Old Stage Road out of Gonzales, along the side of the Salinas Valley insead of going thru Carmel Valley (remote, flat, somewhat straight, rural roads. very nice ride too!!!).
Option 3 - 200 miles. goes all the way down 25 to the end and comes back up Old Stage Road, finishing in San Juan Bautista.
I prefer Option 3 because the drive out of Carmel Valley (near Laguna Seca) can be crowded with traffic and is slow going and because I'd like to drive the entire length of highway 25!
Please vote!

Should be a "spirited drive down 25"!

We can meet in the parking lot at Xilinx (Union and 85). Plenty of Parking. Easy to get back on the Freeway.

I'd like to finally make a Nikki run, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to make such a long run. I'll let you all know if I am going to go. What channel are you guys usually on? What's the aprox run time? I'm going to need to pitch and sell it to the Mrs....

The more the merrier! Even if it's only for part of the run!
I think 7-21 is a safe bet for the radio channel - that's what we used last time.
There's quite a few back roads on this run so I've created several detailed maps to get us though the tricky spots:
Does anyone know of a place to to eat in King City? I found the Wild Horse Cafe; sounds like a fun place or maybe one of the many taco stands in town.
- The starting point
- The drive around Hollister
- The end of highway 25 to King City
- King City for lunch
- Soledad to Gonzales
- The drive up Old Stage Road
- The end in San Juan Bautista

Like Glenn said "I think I need a Nikki run" too.
Count me in. I can meet you in San Juan Batista or at the junction of 156 and Union. What time do you think you will be there?
I will monitor 7-21.

How about meeting at the lot marked on the map below? This will be a good place for the group to get back together before the run down the back streets of Hollister.

If I had checked the MidCal thread earlier I would have suggested that both clubs get together this Sunday. Perfect meeting spot would have been HWY 25 and County Hwy J1. NorCal could travel as planned and MidCal could make up a route that would take them to HWY 5 & County Hwy J1. J1 was built with MINI’s in mind.
J1 deadends at HWY 25.
Oh well – next time.

Google maps says it's ~45 mins. from our starting point, so if we leave on time (
) we should be at 101/156 by 10:00.
