$1000 quote on springs and control arm install

so i just called edge motor works and asked them how much would it cost to install springs and control arms and have an alignment on a 2007 r56.

they tallied it up and it ended up being 1000 dollars. are you kidding me????

does anyone know a place where i can do an install that is NOT $1000 hahahha

i find it funny because even the shop guy thought it was crazy.

i thought installs are around 100 bucks?

i called bay bride motors, they gave me a quote on the lowering springs control arms and allignment and it ended up being 650. i asked if they support a military discount to members and they said 5 percent.

i still thought this was all wayy too expensive. i remember going to motorsport techniques and they did a spring install for 110. so i figured hmm i might as well give them a call. i gave them a call and they quoted me 330. i figured i wont get any lower than that.

ill get you guys some updates on how the shop is when i come back.

2-300 for springs from what I've seen and heard in the socal area
80-125 for an alignment.
75-125 for control arms

Something wrong with your shift key that it won't do caps or punctuation?

The whole point of writing is communication, reading your post is like trying to decipher heiroglyphics.

Any reason you can't do the install yourself? It's certainly not hard...........just remember to have it aligned afterwards.

my apologies if my typing is like deciphering heiroglyphics. i did not mean to offend you if thats the case.

i dont know how to do the spring install. i have done coilovers before but those were on civics which i thought were pretty easy. i also had the tools back then to do it.

if you can do a coilover install on a civic you can most certainly do a spring install on the MINI.

and don't mind the grammar/punctuation police. the guy had 2 sentences to criticize your post and a half *** response as to what to do... weak.

hey, i really appreciate your support. you've been most helpful. im looking through the .pdf and my goodness, they are pretty complicated. yeah, i definitely do not have the tools for that job. i probably can do it... but it would take me a day to finish if anything. hahah

gotta find someone in the area! The springs at least were incredibly easy on my 09 and the gen1 cant be too too different.. (shrug)

If you were in ohio id have you swing by and put it all on. Im no tech but I follow directions well lol.

It just sucks that people have to pay so much to get stuff installed, THEN you gotta pay for alignment on top of that :(

There's nothing particularly difficult about changing out springs and control arms, or doing an alignment afterward, but it's also not a particularly quick job, either.

I agree that the initial $1000 quote was way too high, but you're still talking about 4-5 hours from start to finish, and it's not uncommon for shop labor rates to be in the $120-150 per hour range.

so i took the hit and went to motor sports techniques.

after all was said and done it ended up being:

230- spring install

80- control arm install

90- 4 wheel alignment

here are before and after pics:

before passenger front

after passenger front

before passenger rear

after passenger rear

before passenger wide shot

after passenger wide shot

the job started at approx 2:45 pm and ended at approx 6:15pm.

well if anyone wants any other angles or views dont be afraid to ask ok :D

i actually got 17's in my back yard but i havent put them on. i was waiting on the install of the springs. before i had the wheels on.. it looked really really funny so i figure i take them off.

i ordered the jcw kit when i was doing the ordering process at the dealership.
