When would you want to use that 3rd setting you listed??
Well the third setting is basically somewhere between full stiff and full soft, so consider it a fine tuning option.

As for the dyno, no need to nail down a time, we'll have a sign up list, so whenever you get here will be fine. Looks like the weather will cooperate!!

See you all here!

Had fun Does wheel size have an effect on the dyno? The reason I ask is because the guy who put down that 5 extra hp had 16" to my 17"

Next time Im in there, its 200+ to the pavement

Well, wheel size does effect final gearing and thus the numbers..We had a latecomer (Jeremy) with a 2003, stock intercooler, etc. Put down 189 at the wheels, so he is the current MCS champion at EDGE.

Thanks to all those who came out, it was great to see you all! We look forward to the next event. We will have pics up soon, I'll post when they are up!

Maybe have you throw in a clutch and that UUC flywheel that you "planted the seed" for

Hehe, yes, he had the Alta pulley, I think it was MTH or MTS software, exhaust. Truth be told he ran 183 on his first run, 178 or so on his second, and then we threw some ice on the intercooler for the third and saw 189.

We'll have to do it again soon and try icing down the intercoolers on everyone's cars. I have those flywheels and clutches in stock.

BTW, if any of you have recommendations for manufacturers that you'd like to see EDGE carry, please let me know, we want to have the best on hand for you.

The UUC kit with Organic compound sport clutch is on special for $899, you can get the SPEC stage 3 multi puck clutch for $1049. Not sure on the install off hand, need to look it up tomorrow.

The food was great and I met a lot of nice people.
It was nice to see the dyno numbers.

Hi everyone, I guess I had just missed all the minis when I got there. That was my first dyno experience and the sound alone was worth it . I was able to record some parameters like air temp timing etc. during the runs and the ice can almost keep air temps at real world levels. It's also cool to watch it melt as the car revs up. Here are some numbers to compare with and without ice. The numbers will be hp,tq, air temp start-finish, and water temp start-finish.
Run1 187hp 163tq 115-190 190-205 no ice
Run3 189hp 158tq 118-180 210-225 with ice
Run2 178hp 153tq lost data, but I remember the starts being around 130air and 220water
I should also mention that before I went I change my pre-igniting stock plugs with autolite plugs and I don't think that the ecu had time to put the timing and fuel back to normal. The drive home was much stronger than the drive there. I think there is more power to be had with colder plugs and normal ecu parameters (the car was running so poorly that I almost didn't go) I had a great time and can't wait to meet everyone at the next meet. Thanks again to everyone at edge and I will see you soon for the clutch and flywheel.

I should have mentioned that I am jeremy and the car has 15% pulley, alta intake, milltek cat back, MTH and currently autolite plugs. The plugs seem to run fine and I would probably keep them in if I could find a colder range. Not bad for $7.00 a set.

Sounds like you guys had a great time! And knowing that the EDGE dyno provides WHP, I will certainly make a trek up there sometime soon. Oh, it's not so much wheel size that impacts gearing, but tire size, or more accurately, the rolling diameter of the tire. At least that is what I've always thought...

Tony is correct, Diameter is a determining factor, weight is also, but now we are splitting hairs. Swapping wheels for the dyno is borrowing your dad's car to make a good impression on a girl. It might work for better numbers that night, but it isn't representative of the real world. I always say..Run what you brung! In fact, when tuning cars for Solo2, we will often do runs in 2nd or 3rd so that we know how much power is actually getting to the ground in the gears we use.

Thanks again to everyone who came out, hope to see you all again really soon!

Almost 2 years ago I went with 16" Volk CE28N's that weigh 10.75 lbs each. At the same time, I chose to get 205x45's which are about 1" smaller in rolling diameter than the stock 16 MINI issue, and the giddy-up with the weight loss and and smaller diameter was very noteworthy!!! I've never had my MCS dyno'd, but I'm very sure the dyno would show something; albeit, maybe not max power. In going with a smaller rolling diameter, while acceleration improves, it's at the sacrifice of top-end speed...

Erik - Thank you for a great event. I didn't get a chance to formally meet you, as you looked pretty busy running around all day. Your crew there all seemed very friendly and professional. What is the name of the Asian guy that works with you? We chatted about him driving a spec Mini and I forgot to get his name.

Jason, Manuel, Micky, Jim, (sorry, I didn't get the name of the other IB Mini guy): It was great meeting you guys. Thanks for showing me your cool Minis. I hope to have one soon (11 month wait at East Bay Mini). :(

Call the guys at Classic MINI in Ohio. Great customer service, very small wait, and no markup.... you just have to pay for the truck ride out here or the plane ticket out there.... whichever way you prefer to get it home

Matt,

That was Jim Ochi you were talking to.He's been around the block with a few different types of cars. He actually co-drove my car a couple of years back and is the guy that got me back into racing cars.

Really great seeing you all out there! Please email me with any suggestions on products you'd like to see us carry or events that we can put on. Thanks again!

If you want one sooner in California with no mark-up go to South Bay Mini in Torrance. They were great to deal with and it all went smoothly, no add-on or tricks, and the wait was not bad at all the last I heard (plus they have alot of stock on hand which they have stopped adding lo-jack and stuff to). The drive back to the bay area was nice and doable, a good way to get a few hundred miles out of the break in without making it a marathon.

Anyway, sounds like I missed a fun event - with hope the mini or the m coupe will visit Edge sometime

(PS: do you guys offer careful tire mounting? I'm sick of the usual places that mess up wheels and want a place I can trust).

Just curious how often do you have dyno days??? How much does it cost to get your car dynoed normally?

We do take great care when mounting tires, though we generally try to avoid it for reasons you just mentioned. We have the machines and generally do race tires, but Rich worked in a tire store for 4 years and is both competent and careful!

As for the dyno days, we will do them once a month, and will start running them in the evenings once it gets hot. We call them Hot Dyno Nights and do them one or two Thursdays a month. Normal cost is $85 for 3 runs with air/fuel, t-shirt, food. Subsequent sessions are done at a reduced cost of $63 and change.
