And after Vegas I say we go through Death Valley on the way home. Tami and I did it in 2006 and got home faster than the freeway folks did. Alright, Ricks buying the Margaritas . Can't wait.

Hello and welcome to the left coast. Norcal Minis has members from Monterey to Mendocino. We travel around all over Northern California. We don't have a place we meet every month but we usually stop for a meal or a pint and talk about things then. AMVIV is a great event. Clubs come from all over. Give us a call 510-881-3456.

I'm hoping to talk my wife into going to this so right now I can't say for sure I'll be going. I am curious about the route through Death Valley on the way back. What roads do you plan on driving across the mountains? Maybe a drive through Yosemite?

Drove through Death Valley today coming home from Laughlin.
Went all the way up to Scotty's Castle. Parts of that road are like a roller coster. I know that is not in the plans but what a great trip. Of course we stopped at Bad Water. Couldn't quite get the pic of Phaba and the sign in the mountain that says below sea level.

What a road to see a line of MINI's on.

Larry I'm curious also on which route you plan on taking after Death Valley?
Took me 9 hours to get to Laughlin and three days to get back.

Hey Cassie! Good to see your on the mend!!!!!

I've been through Death Valley to Vegas 3 times in the last 2 years for AMVIV. Best route I've found (Yosemite was not an option...roads still closed) was 99 south to Delano, 155 east to Lake Isabella, 178 east to 395, north to Olancha (or continue east on 178 through Ridgecrest which meets up with 190), east on 190 through Stovepipe Wells to Death Valley Junction, then on to Pahrump (don't remember to highway #) and finally 160 into Vegas. 155 from Delano to Lake Isaballa is an outstanding ride and 190 from Olancha to Stovepipe Wells is another great twisty for the MINI. The scenery is unmatched.....from the Central Valley to 6000' in the Sierra Nevada mountains to below sea level in Death Valley and the colors is outstanding.
Makes for a long day on the road, but best if you can do it in 2.....more time to take in flora 'n fauna.
Another fun road is 127 out of Baker to Shoshone, then east on 178/372 (highway changes # when you get into Nevada) to Pahrump.
All depends on how much time you want to devote.....

Thats the route we are thinking about. Just going the other direction. Tami and I took it home last time we went. It sure beats sitting on the highway in traffic. If we wait a few years Tioga pass just might be open that time of year.

I ran the times on the mapping program. Approx. 8 hours on the highway, 12 if we go through Death Valley. This does not include any stops and driving at the limit. Last time we got home in about the same time as those that took the freeway due to all the traffic coming out of Vegas.

I agree Larry. I remember being stuck in traffic the first year.
That's how we started going the back roads on trips and not
going staight home anymore.

SoCal has quite a few twisties that are 70 to 90 miles without
any services.

AMVIV registrations are now open for the March 27-30, 2008 event.
Go to www.AMVIV.com/reg.htm to sign up.
When you click the submit button, you will be taken to the checkout page.

If you want to pay with PayPal, add all your items to your cart and pay. If you want to pay by check, please print your registration page, then put all your items in the PayPal cart and print the PayPal cart page. Please include
these printouts with your check (payable to Sin City MINI Club) and mail them to:
Sin City MINI Club
AMVIV V Registration
3195 Shadow Bluff Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89120

Any purchases that do not include either a car registration or vendor registration will be cancelled and refunded.

After your payment is received, you will receive an email confirmation. If you have not gotten an email confirmation from Andrew Ross aka Agro, YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED.

Vendor registrations are not yet open. We will be contacting prior AMVIV vendors and other companies that have contacted us during the year regarding becoming a vendor. The vendor registrations will open some time after the New Year.

If you haven't booked your hotel room yet, you should do so ASAP. When I talked to Palace Station on Thursday, there were only a few Tower rooms left on our group rate of $129. Palace has just raised the non-group rate for AMVIV weekend to $219 per night for Tower rooms.

There are still over 100 Garden rooms left on the group rate, but they fill up pretty fast and once they're gone, that's all she wrote.

To book at Palace Station, call the Palace Station Reservations Office at 1-800-634-3101. Use reservation ID "PCIMVIV" or identify yourself as a Sin City MINI Club attendee. All room rates are plus tax.

See you in March.
