Event: 2nd Hopkinton State Park Car Enthusiast Meet
Date: Sunday, April 23rd, 2006
Time: 11-4pm (PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY SO EVERYONE IS AROUND)
Things to do: Time for meeting new enthusiasts, cars and BBQing. Maybe other stuff too...

Directions: Rte. I-495 (north or south) to exit 21A, Main Street Hopkinton. Travel on Main Street until the third traffic light located at the heart of downtown Hopkinton. Turn left, traveling North on Route 85. Proceed approximately 2 miles to the Hopkinton State Park entrance on the right (do not enter the Field Office on the left).

We were in the Hopkinton Newspaper (not awesome, but something)...

 

Just some general info on what the plan of the day is ... do you all just gather at one place and look under the hoods? No driving routes?

MINI owners don't do much looking under the hood - no need

 

The main plan is to just all congregate in the same area and hangout, bbq and just talk about our cars. Its a great event to meet new people and learn about other cars.

Just to give you guys a quick update, there's already 10 people signed up for my other Acura forum and there's been people signing up from all the other forums. Could be a blowout of an event!

This sounds more like an impromptu GTG like I used to do with my focus buddies, than the organized MINI rallies that I am now used to.
They were fun, but mostly consisted of meet & greet, checking out each others cars, a BBQ if we were lucky, and we later broke off to do whatever we thought of (memories of watching street racing in the bad areas of Chicago at 5am...)

It is still fun, but maybe us mini people can attach a twisty route before or after.

 

there are some nice roads up towards Boylston and the Wachusett Reservoir, and Mt. Wachusett itself (maybe a MOT warmup) Josh, I'd be happy to take a look...

I can certainly find some back roads leading from W Boylston/Worcester up to Mt Wachusett, if someone wants to get us from the park to there.

It's in my calendar, so I'm still hoping to show up.

Yesterday I went out and drove from Hopkinton up to West Boylston...I went the long way, down into Hopkinton and over to Rte. 140, which snakes up into West Boylston. Time ~40 mins, ~28 miles. Minimort, this is to the stone house on the shore of the reservoir, where 140 goes left up to Sterling.

Not sure about eats up there, I drove by a Sterling Ice Cream stand, classic old dirt parking lot, maybe a good spot? Folks could hop on 495 for their ride home.

There's a more direct, highway route that would be about 20 minutes as well, going up to 495 to 290 to 140.

There are already over 110 people signed up for this meet across the forums. This doesn't include the friends that people are bringing along.

 

Ah, MINI of Peabody has announced a rally w/ BBQ for the same day, I'm leaning towards that despite being a bit further away. Thanks for the invite and info tho'
