Mini Connected Y-Cable

I'm looking at buying a new Mini shortly (probably a JCW Paceman as soon as you can order one) but I have a question about the Mini Connected system and the cable. I'm trying to understand what I'm reading in the forums and from what I've seen. Do you have to plug both cables the Headphone looking one and the 30 pin cable into the iPhone? Even for just using Audio functions non of the video? I ask because the 30 pin has analog and digital audio on it so it makes very little sense to me that you'd need that audio cable as well.

thank you!

The Y cable has a 30 pin connector on one end and a USB and audio connector on the other...

30 pin to iPod, USB and Audio to the car.

If you have an iPhone5 then you need a 30pin to lightning adapter to connect the iPhone5 to the y cable. With the iPhone5 you loose video and the "plug-in" feature but you can get audio and control of the iPhone without plug-in

Is this still the only way to use the new iPhone5 with the MINI interface cable USB Y iPhone/iPod connector? Or is there something new coming down the MINI pike soon - as in a new Y cable?

I do not have NAV, etc., I just want to be able to hook up the new iPhone5 when I finally get one. Perhaps I should have started a brand new thread?

Thanks for any help!

still the only way - they keep saying a new lightning cable is coming, but that has been for months now.

Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps I'll call my dealership just to see what they have to say.

Much appreciated!

Just called my dealership. Said mini released the part last week and to call back next week. This is for the 5 series iPhone y cable.

It'll be interesting to see what functionality it offers...

Yes, it will. Thanks for the update. Since all I want it for is my iPhone...and I just bought the 30 pin to lightening connector... I'm thinking that I won't need to buy this new MINI version.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date!

I tried the 30 pin to lightning connector with no luck. I can connect my old iPhone 4 but not my 5. Just my experience so far.

The 30 pin and lightning connector works fine with the MINI y cable for my iPhone 5s - however I am only using it for the phone/streaming an internet radio station, music on the phone, etc., since I don't have MINI Connected. At first I didn't think it worked but realized I hadn't pushed the lightning connector in far enough.
