Dealer Installed Nuvi Mount

Does anyone know if we can just get the mount installed by the dealer without getting the Nuvi 360? I just got the 660 'cause of the extra features and bigger screen but I like the mount that people are getting with the 360.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the dealer installed mount only fits the 350/360. I remember reading that the back of the devices are physically different such that it just won't fit.

How is the 660, by the way? I'm considering picking one up but I'm not sure if the mounting situation would be good enough.

I really like the nuvi 660 I haven't yet tried the real time traffic info and the FM transmitter but all the other features are really cool. I used to have a Magellan 700 which was much more limited, much bigger, heavier, and had a hard time syncing with satellites on a cloudy day usually had to drive a mile or more before it kicked in. I only had the nuvi for a couple days but this morning was cloudy and it picked up the satellites right away from inside the house.

I like the additional features like MP3 player and Bluetooth since my old car doesn't even have a CD player but I probably won't use those in the MINI. However I haven't taken it on a longer road trip yet so I don't know how good it is with directions but I assume it has to be pretty good and I like the fact that it says the street names, as well as it knows the difference between an entrance ramp or a regular right turn, which my Magellan didn't.

I also have a 360 on the way. Does anyone have pictures or a part number for the factory mini mount? And will the mount work on an '06?

Do a search here. There is a MINI part number for the mounting kit and there are specific kits of '07 MINIs vs '06 and older. Also, I have the MINI splash screens and cars that load onto the NUVI. They look sharp, though I still need to make a Sparkling Silver MINI and a nice little black Z3 coupe....

I was also curious about getting the Nuvi mount installed for my 680. My dealer (New Country, Hartford) was able to supply me with the install instructions for the mounting bracket and although you can put the 660/680 mount onto it there doesn't seem to be enough room. I was looking at the instructions and it would be possible to put a plate of some sort over the mounting bracket to get some additional room but the other issue is that the wiring harness doesn't account for the receiver for the real time traffic and other features of the newer Nuvi.

As an aside, I highly recommend the Kuda mount for use with the 6xx-series Nuvi. See <http://www.kudausa.com/kuda_mount_and_holder_for_mini_mini_cooper_since_2 007-34-529.html#> and click on the image immediately under the 1-800 phone number at top of page.

I also have the Kuda mount for the Nuvi 680 and although I thought the GPS was a little too close to the wheel after the initial install, I got used to it real fast. Now, I like being able to touch the screen while my hand is almost still on the wheel.

Also, there are a couple of very informative threads on here with detailed install instructions that were extremely helpful. The install took be about 30 minutes without hard-wiring.

Hey guys, don't waste your money on the MINI dealer installed mount. It's expensive and not very cool. I use the ProClip and it mounts on the passenger console upright. Total cost $60.00 and when your hand is on the shifter, your index finger is only about an inch away from the screen...Check it out...
